Was at my lcs and stumbled across what I think is a decent condition and decently priced model 63 no dash. No box, no tools and no other grips. My wife loves shooting this model so time to get my own and not borrow from a friend. Did the 63 come with combat grips at any point. They don't fit well over the at either side of the top of grips where middle finger and thumb webbing sit. Round gun surface where square grips sit. How can I tell if the grips are real combats? I don’t believe the Model 63 of the era of yours came with combat stocks. I could be wrong. Here is my no dash 63 from 1981 with the factory standard grips numbered to revolver and S&W J Frame Square Butt target grips that I later bought on EBay.

Nice looking Model 63! No, I do not think the combat stocks are original, most likely they were packaged in a blister pack and sold through a gun shop.

I'm not a collector and know little about which stocks came on which guns, but I bought a used 1970s 63 close to twenty years ago that was in with a batch of other J-frame guns, most of which looked new. The 63 had the "combat" stocks on it and I assumed that's what came on the gun from the factory. I quickly replaced them with standard stocks; more in keeping in line with the trim shape and compactness of the revolver. The combat stocks look and feel out of proportion on a 63, too big, at least for me.
