Just figured I'd drop my 2 cents on the new 2.0 Apex forward set sear kit that I just installed in my 5" FDE 9mm.

Its pretty wicked! Haven't gotten to the range yet but its pretty similar to the 1.0 versions I already have.

its break actually feels just a little bit more crisp than the other ones I have but that could just be due to it being brand new.

unlike the older versions of the FSS, it doesn't actually have a different sear than the standard 2 dot sear that would come in the duty\carry kit. the older version had a 3 dot sear that was a little longer, and thus making the pre-travel very short. Also you could adjust the over travel of the system by closing the loop in the trigger bar making for a great trigger feel similar to a single action 1911.

the new system had to change because of the changes made in the 2.0 trigger system. Apex made their own sear actuator that has an extension that makes the trigger bar contact sooner to take out some of the pre-travel and this piece takes the place of the original 3 dot sear. I don't know if they changed anything in the dimensions of the trigger shoe but the result of the new kit is next to zero over travel and an ultra crisp break and due to the flat trigger, the trigger reach is farther forward to make it easier to shoot with the first pad of your finger.

They have also included TWO different sear springs in addition to the two different trigger springs. by varying the combination of springs between factory and apex, you can really tune to your liking.

I will say the only thing I don't like a much with the new system is that it has much more pre-travel than the original FSS kits. the FSS in the 1.0 had a super short pre-travel and while the new version is shorter than stock, it's not AS short as the 1.0 version. I don't know why Apex decided to change this but I was slightly disappointed by that. Still, this kit is fantastic and I don't regret buying it for a second and would buy it again even despite the SLIGHT disappointment of the pre-travel.

I will keep working on my stock 2.0 trigger for now .

Thanks for sharing this, much appreciated!

Thanks for the happy review!

In regards to the takeup, we were limited by the fact that the sear actuator needs to have a safety margin for the thumb safety variant. In other words, the part of the sear actuator that contacts the trigger bar needed to have enough space so that it cannot make contact with the thumb safety activated and the center mounted trigger safety depressed.
We also had to consider the tolerance variations that are present from gun to gun.

As you mentioned, the 2.0 does not have the ability to change engagement distance like the 1.0 since there is no trigger loop to adjust should the shooter prefer a shorter trigger stroke. The benefit of the 2.0 trigger system however far outweighs the perceived shortcoming. The 2.0 trigger system is far more resistant to the dead trigger phenomenon that was seen in the 1.0. In fact, we have run the 2.0 trigger with our forward set at absurdly light pull weights that would cause sear flutter in the 1.0 pistols we have here with no malfunctions. It's simply a better system.

In light of the Sig P320 drop test fiasco, we have also evolved our drop test protocols. We not only drop test from a greater height than SAAMI, Mil Std and CA DoJ standards, but we do so in 27 different orientations.
We wanted to make sure that our triggers have a greater margin for safety, even if it is at the expense of a little trigger travel.

I'm glad you like our trigger!

I just ordered an Apex kit for my soon to be delivered M&P9 2.0 Compact. I can't wait to get it all put together and on the range.

PLUS, it's very impressive that Randy from Apex is not only a member here, but actually takes the time to address issues and concerns from his customers. That's what customer orientation looks like! Kudos to Apex!!

Front sight, press............

I figured there was a good reason. I agree with you as well that this new system is better. I've thought that since I first tore it apart and checked it out.

Just got it out to the range and it performed just as well as I thought it would and i am extatic. I don't just like this trigger kit...i love it! Actually thinking about putting this on my compact now for carry. I have the other one set up with about a 3.5lb pull with the factory trigger spring and lighter apex sear spring but with the additional sear spring option and the little more uptake I would be more than comfortable putting this in a carry gun and still have a trigger that is not too heavy.

Thanks Randy and tell everyone at the shop 'great job' for me.

Now I just need to try out one of your glock triggers...

Just installed the Apex FSS 2.0 kit in my Compact. Love it. Pre travel is about .150, which is just fine for carry, and about .040 over travel which is almost non perceivable. Trigger breaks at 4 lbs 6 oz after trying 5.5 lbs and 3.5 lbs. Very tunable, great job (again) APEX.

I have the Apex trigger kit in my Shield. I've been able to modify so there is almost no pre travel or over travel and trigger breaks at 4.75lbs.

My CORE PC has stock trigger with APEX springs and the only pre travel is because of the hinged trigger, which I hate but need to make it legal for Carry Optic division. Over-travel is .00. Trigger breaks at 2.75 lbs. I also have the non ported Apex barrel instead of the stock ported. Red Dot sight is Vortex Razor.

By the way thanks to Jeremy for the M2.0C with night sights, 3 15 round and 2 17 round mags. Cheers my friend.

Philip
