After two weeks of study and compairsons I ordered a S&W AR15T. I think I am going to be very happy with it. Anyone else here have one? There are so many out there to choose from that it came down to finding the S&W that had what I was looking in an AR. Found others but felt that S&W would stand behind their rifle better than some smaller company.

Torn between an AK and AR (I know, different animals, but I want both eventually).

When will you be receiving it?

I've had the brother of your rifle, an M&P15A, since about 2011. Chrome lined 1:9 barrel, staked buffer nut and carrier key, with Troy BUIS and F front sight.
The fit of the upper to lower is snug, rattle free, but opens smoothly. The trigger was scratchy with lots of creep, and the pistol grip did not fit my hand, so I changed the trigger to RRA and the grip to Hogue.
I've had about 2,000 rds of 55 gr Lake City, PMC and Winchester white box through it without a single malfunction. I shoot it with irons or EOtech, and it groups as well as I can shoot. With irons prone or from a bench I can consistently hit soup cans at 100 yards. For me, it was a lot of value for the money (under $1,000), and as good as I need for an AR.

Congrats on the Smith, you're gonna love it! You can find cheaper, you can find significantly more expensive, but you'll be hard pressed to find a better value than anything in the S&W line. I have a Sport, well a slightly modified Sport, and it's quite frankly the best AR I've owned, ever.

Good Luck and good shooting!

That's a good buy.

I like to build my own, but that's just me:

I am also in the two week window of researching AR's and the M&P is for sure on my short list. I can't wait to hear how you like it. I am also looking at CMMP and Ruger and building my own.

For M&P like this one..

Product: Model M&P15 MOE Mid MAGPUL® SPEC SERIES

The Mid MOE is one of S&W's premium rifle... totally different animal than the Ruger. I also have a CMMG, and while I like it, I had to use their customer service before... Not a great experience. They took care of me, but it took several phone calls and several emails.

agreed on the Mid Moe being in the different class, i just can't decide how much i want to spend upfront vs how much i want to spend on upgrades down the road.

I am also considering the Sport vs the Ruger as baseline and then using each to plan out future upgrades. Where as the Moe versions seems done.:D

I'd like to have one, but just stick with my original Colt Sporter models. They are the original civilian AR-15's. Old doesn't necessarily mean bad, as we frequently see on S&W revolvers.

Smith and Wesson generally has a good reputation for customer service.

But, warranty service is no reason to buy (or not to buy) a basic AR15.

AR15's are so standardized, and generic, these days, that anybody assembling one would have to be a rank amateur to get it wrong.

You'll like your new Stoner-pattern gun.
Find a use for it, and put it to use, doing fun and worthwhile things.
If it ever needs fixing, learn how to fix it yourself.

I earned my Distinguished Rifleman badge with my "Smith and Wesson" AR.
Not much S&W about it, but I do like me some Smith and Wesson, so that's just the way it had to be.

The Sport and the Ruger are not bad rifles (have a Sport myself), however depending on what upgrades you plan to do, you may be better off financially buying a rifle closer to your final config. For example, if you plan to free float the barrel and put a keymod rail on, you might come out cheaper buying that complete from BCM. Especially if you buy the Sport and then decide you must have the forward assist and dust cover...

My final choose came down to CMMG or S&W. Service came into play because CMMG's are bult about 60 miles from my home. But I know S&W will will take care of me

i've had my 15T for almost a year now and really love it.
it's my first AR and it has been trouble free.
it shoots everything i feed it without a hitch. steel case, remanufactured brass and new brass.

i added a Magpul CTR stock, Bushnell TR-25 red dot and UTG 3x magnifier.

for the money, it had all that i wanted in my first AR. the handguard is a little heavy but it has cool S&W logos on it.

i got mine from Quanitco Tactical, who matched the price at Atlantic Tactical + the $25 AT would have charged for shipping.

I have and love my 15T. Maybe 1600 rounds, from a variety of different experienced shooter and no issues or problems with ammo. I bought mine in Aug of 2014 and the only problem I have is figuring how to set it up.

I saw no mention of free floated handguard in your link. If you've never experienced this you won't believe the difference. I have shot many different ARs in competition.

Huh? I didn't link anything.

Smith products are fine, but don't buy them for their service or their warranties. They are a nightmare.

Sorry, I can't agree with your statement that "They are a nightmare". I have sent back an AR for repair, no charge and back in my hands in 10 days. Can you be more specific?

I stand corrected, ii should of put miniSQ's quote in this too. Sorry, my mistake.
