Bodyguard .380 prices

Why is everyone paying so much for these little .380's ? The MSRP, taken off the S & W website, is only $399. Are they in such demand that the prices are all over the place ? They ARE scarce, but I can buy one today at the local Bass Pro Shops for a lot less than the MSRP. Maybe they are cheaper here because .380 ammo is through the roof, IF you can find it ? Go figure.

Bass Pro Sale flyer has them for $349.99 (and says they were $499) - photo seems to be of the earlier version without the raised circle around the laser switch.
