Reviews on this this morning with extensive video clips. Apparently all animals in the thing are computer generated. Harrison Ford must be broke to work in a cartoon.

Ooookaaay.. having just watched that clip, and having thought I might like to see the movie, I have just changed my mind.....I agree that we want to be entertained, but I have a little trouble suspending any semblance of reality, especially when I have read the book on which said movie is based.

I well understand the use/need for
CGI animals.

Real animal actors are extremely
temperamental, demanding, have
no respect for the directors or
even necessarily the script and
require many stand-ins because
with star status they often times
just won't work within time and
budget limitations.

That made me laugh-out-loud.......seems it describes a lot of human actors also. Maybe they should use CGI for the humans and "real" animals.:D

The dog in the trailer looked so fake it totally turned me off to the movie.

They lost me after watching less than 2 minutes of that clip. The dogs don't look natural at all in looks or in motion to me.

I just reread that book about 2 weeks ago and it's a darned shame to see what these Hollyweird idiots are doing to a classic story. :(

And Harrison Ford is looking about 100 years old to me now too. If you look in a book of sayings and look up "Rode hard and put up wet" you will see his picture there. ;)

CGI will kill the movie business.

No it won't. But large-scale films, war movies,
super action thrills just need to be forgotten
about. Besides, the best films are often the
"talkie" kind, including a crime story like
"L.A. Confidential" or "The Usual Suspects"
or "Heat." And comedies don't need CGI
either. Nor decent westerns or love stories.
It's all in the writing, something
often diminished by the over use of CGI.

It has its place. When Jackson did Lord of the Rings it was a combo of live actors, sets, models, animatronics and CGI. That combo is what made it realistic.

Relying on all CGI may be cheaper, but it isn't what makes for the best movie.

E.G that dog in the OP is obviously CGI :(

I'm thinking CGI may do to temperamental Hollywood actors the same that a $15.00 per hour minimum wage may do to many Walmart and McDonald's employees . . . they'll be replaced by computers and put out of a job.

He's just a few months short of 78.

Reviews I have seen were lukewarm. All mentioned the visibility of CGI in the dog images. There was an interview with Ford on last Sunday's CBS Morning News - more like pimping the film for the most part. His comments didn't do much to make me like him. In fact I also might be a little slow on the brakes if he stepped in front of my truck.

I’m not against cgi in films; many of what I watch has at least some in it. But at least in the trailers it doesn't look well done.

Considering when we recently watched the Lion King remake in 4k in our home theater, that was like watching a Nat Geo wildlife video with very realistic scenes. So this new Call of the Wild for me is nowhere close. Even if the story was decent i couldn't get around the animation used.
My .02 only of course.

I'm also sure the several crashes he's had with his airplanes haven't done him much good either. ;) As for CGI characters, I wonder when they will try to CGI one of the Hollywood legends from days gone by like Clark Gable or John Wayne in a new movie.
