New Chinese Laser Rifle

The Chinese have apparently developed a man portable laser rifle. According to the report on Fox Business News it will fire up to 1000 2 second bursts, and weighs about the same as an AK47. They call it non-lethal. The same way white Phosphorous is non lethal, I guess.

There's no way that a handheld rifle sized laser would have enough power to meet those performance specs. Not to mention that a laser tends to spread over distance. So there's just not enough power available at that size. Notice how there's been no demonstration.

Well, I can say for sure that if the Chinese come out with any new and interesting technological developments, they got it one of two ways - they hacked into a US military and/or industry computer and stole the plans...or they acquired a lost/damaged/destroyed example of US hardware and reverse-engineered it.
