The mags that came with my Colt 1911 have a small bump on the follower. It’s there to help feed the last two rounds.

I ordered 4 factory Colt mags from a reputable vendor. Mags came sealed in a plastic pouch indicating Colt government and commander. They all have the pony and Colt 45 auto with a ‘c’ on the baseplate. But no bump on the follower.

1) do the newer factory Colt mags omit the bump?
2) will these mags work? Did the original design have a bump?

Any insight would help. Thanks.

Without the bump, i have found SOME hollw point ammo to slide forward in the magazine as the last-but-one round is fired, placing the open end of the hollow point right up against the feed ramp, making a nosedive more likely.
With the dimpled follower, the last round sits where it should, against the back of the magazine waiting for the slide to strip it off and slip it into the chamber.
I have found this only matters with the “flying ashtray” hollow point ammo (the old Speer Lawman comes to mind).
But because of this, all my mags have the dimpled follower.
Just curious, do the new mags you have hold 7 rounds or 8?

Thanks. 7 round mags only.

I only shoot and carry 230 grain hard ball.

When I was working as an armorer at one of my old duty stations, we saw a lot of 1911s fire 10,000 rounds in pre-deployment training, all of it in just a few weeks. Several of these guns were old Colt guns, Springfield, or Kimber being occasionally out on the range.
The typical magazine used was the Wilson 47 series “warrior” mag, and most folks liked them. If, however, any pistol gave an operator fits, I immediately tested the weapon in whatever condition he was using it, and if I could reproduce the failure, (sometimes could not) I would swap to Metalform (or Wilson 920) magazine with hybrid feed lip geometry and flat, dimpled steel follower. (The Springfields all came from Crane with this very mag)
90% of the time, this solved the problem if it was a feeding issue. Most operators who experienced any issue with the 1911 blamed the design or the gun itself. These folks have since all switched to the Glock 19 and Sig P-series pistols (P228 and P226). No 1911s left at NSW anymore.

The "C" on the floorplate indicates the magazine was manufactured by "Check Mate Industries", one of the principal manufacturers of Colt factory magazines. I assume you meant there is no "bump" on the follower. This surprises me as the bump is a feature of the patented follower used by CheckMate.

It's a "factory" magazine, of course it will work!

I have some Colt magazines...any failures to feed or failure to lock slide on last round are exclusive to the Colt mags. My Wilson & McCormick magazines never give me issues. The McCormick shooting star 8 rounders also R good to go in my stock Colt Gov. full size. But I still run the Colt mags. I need to pinpoint if it is a specific magazine or what...could be just one since I have not marked them accordingly.

BTW all my Colt Mags R stamped C & they all have the 'bump' on the follower.

Thanks for asking for clarity. The follower; yes, is lacking the bump.

These are from Midway, in sealed packages, marked Colt.

I know there could be fakes out there. But the feed lips look correct (with the slight V taper shape).

thanks

Interesting as Checkmate still advertises their 7 round mags, both GI and Hybrid, as having the bump on the follower. That bump is there for a reason. I wonder if your mags are genuine or perhaps a Chinese knock-off?
Could you post some pics?
