The gun is safe with any factory loaded, or factory equivelant hand loaded ammo in the proper caliber.
The BP (black powder) frame refers to a design. Before smokeless powder frame were made for Colt SAA's, there was a screw that went in at an angle in the front of the frame to hold the base pin in. Later this was changed to the spring loaded "cross" pin that is seen the most in current revolvers. The BP frame required a screwdriver to remove the cylinder, the later smokeless powder frame did not.
I actually like the looks of the BP frame better and have some replicas that I used for SASS with the BP frame.
