Thought this one might be of interest....

This is a recent local find (including the knife) and I just sent off for a letter on it and the serial number falls within the range of the many guns shipped to the famous Copper Queen Mine in Bisbee, AZ.....so fingers crossed!

It is in original condition with the exception of the stocks and the barrel has been cut to 4-7/8"

This is a "FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER" which were all in .44 WCF

The knife was made bay CJ Duebel and features a Damascus blade and scrimshawed antler handle.

Found this one that had shipped to CQM and close in the S/N range

Copper Queen SAA

Most of the Colt Single Actions shipped to the Copper Queen Mine that I have seen were originally shipped with 4-3/4" barrels. Perhaps in this case they received a SAA with a 5-1/2" or 7-1/2" barrel and just decided to "fix it" locally. Please let us know what the factory letter says when you receive it.

UPDATE

I received a call this morning from a fellow at the Colt Archives and this one DID NOT ship to Copper Queen

He told me that is left the factory on 10/16/1901 as a 7-1/2" Blue .44-40 and when to Richards and Conover in Kansas City, MO and was one of two guns shipped to them that day.

So now we know!!

I reached out to the historical society in Kansas City
(Got a tip from a Colt forum member)

Apparently they have a large amount of records in their archives containing invoices, etc. and there is a chance they may have a record of who purchased this Colt back in 1901

Will certainly update this thread on whether anything was found.

I don't know that I would place any higher value if it shipped to Arizona versus Kansas City. Either way it probably sold in some sort of department store. It looks to be in decent shape - we need a range report!

I am told that coming from Richards and Conover is a good thing.....so I am glad to know where it went from the factory. Will be icing on the cake to find out where it went from there, but not holding my breath.

We are packing up for our move to WI so no time to go out and shoot it but will certainly do so when I get settled.
