Local gun store had this for me the other day.
Seems to be in great shape, if its been fired, its only been a few.
I've wanted to cut a full lug 44 down to 3.5" for along while, I'll try to resist it with this one its just in too nice of shape.

Put a few rounds through this gun yesterday, its a keeper. Both mid range and full bore magnums print nice small round groups.

Those are good .44s - at least the two I've had over the years were. I am not a fan of the full-lug design for wearing in a belt holster but the guns sure do shoot. I "inherited" one from a friend who carried his in an odd shoulder/chest rig he "engineered" himself. It is made from various bits of camouflage and black ballistic nylon, main part being a modified commercial holster. It is not much to look at - but it would be good for stand-hunting, which is what he used it for.

Does your -3 have the "over-size" exit bores? My guns both measured .432" but I have heard some of the last -3s had smaller throats. Never run across one that did, but that doesn't mean anything.

I have a sibling to yours. Wonderful DA/SA trigger and it's very accurate. It's the gun that made me appreciate S&W. Mine is S/N TJA71XX. Do not cut it.

I got home from work and checked the throats. This one "measures" .4285, but a .429 bullet will start down them. I also checked a 5"-3 that almost a year older and its right at .428 and the same bullet will not start in it at all. Here's that other -3.

Nothing wrong with your eyes, the first gun is 6.5" ans the second is 5".

Lucky you! Assuming your barrel is the right size your revolver should be great for the common size cast bullets available. I shoot .431 and .432 bullets in my guns and the molds have to be special-ordered. Waiting on a new one now, as a matter of fact.

I'll admit that the thought did flash between my ears, but the condition of gun and box makes it too hard to do.
I'll find the right one at the right price someday and have my way with it

The coding on my box leads me to believe that my 629-3 Classic was shipped 12/90. I bought mine in 2/91. A year or two after it replaced a Super Redhawk in my hunting holster a friend, very knowledgeable on guns, tried it out. I saw him again a month or so later and he said he had been looking at new 629s just like mine at various gun stores and could not find one with as good a trigger. The first 1991 629-3 Classics are about as good as they come... unless you have a Classic DX.
