Congratulations to your son, and you. Earning the Eagle is not easy, and getting there teaches a great deal.
I am an adult volunteer. Have been an assistant scoutmaster, troop committee chair, council governing board member, District chair, and Philmont trek advisor. Attending Eagle Courts of Honor is one of my favorite things.
For those of you who used to be Scouts and read Boys Life, BSA still awards Heroism medals. One of my best memories in Scouting as as District Chairman pinning a heroism award on a new Eagle Scout immediately following his Eagle Court of Honor. Heroism awards are made in the name of the Boy Scouts of America at the national level, and convening a Court of Honor to do so is inspiring.
The first heroism award ceremony I attended was for a Cub Scout who saved a young child from drowning, at risk of his own life.
Scouting has a real and immediate impact on boys. When you look at the achievements of Eagle Scouts as adults, the long term value of this impact is immeasurable.
