I just wanted to share this photo of my Uberti Hombre. I had removed the original matt black finish with a Scotch Brite pad and took that horrible orange varnish off the stocks. Why do they put that stuff on there anyway, with such beautiful wood underneath?? I have been accused of putting custom grips on this gun, well, I guess because I refinished them they are a "little" custom. I just wanted to let everyone see what a small amount of work changed the look so much.

Way prettier than mine. I have a .357 El Patron that still is like new in the box. Time to get it out and hit those grips...

It took me a couple of weeks to drum up the courage to take the scrubbing pad to the gun. I did see this done on Gunblast.com and posted my results there for comparison. I just can't figure why Uberti imports have that weird finish on such great wood. I'm sure what you come up with will really be nice. I stripped them with steel wool and acetone and then rubbed them with a kind of furniture oil, no varnish or poly. The oil was given to me and unfortunately the label was gone. Please let us see your results.

Your gun looks so good-
Photo Bucket wants some of the credit!
Did I mention how much I like nice wood?
Your Grips are really nice!

If you look up the Uberti Hombre on line you will see what the original looked like. I purchased that model because it was the least expensive model Uberti offered, and it was all they had in the gun store at the time. Cheap me!!! As for the grips, you'd think that Uberti was ashamed of the fine wood under all the varnish they put on them. There is a treasure under all that goop. These are the same grips that came with the gun. Go figure!!

Thanks for all your kind comments.

Beautiful stocks, just beautiful. As for the Photobucket watermark, I think it just to say that someone is paying for our service and in return we are using it for free advertising of our service.
