I'm retired and started shooting again.Mostly target 22's with open sights.Recently purchased CZ rifle and am looking to add a semi auto pistol.I like the new High Standard Victor best but might consider a like new used S&W Model 41 made in the mid 70's.I've heard the mid 70's were the best models.
Any recommendations would be appreciated. Not interested in Rugers but maybe on a new Buckmark.

Welcome to the forum. I too am reciently retired and returing to shooting. I have an older from the 70's High Standard VICTOR and I love it, but you should go on line and research the newer manufactured High Standard guns and their manufacturer (Mitchel?). These Victors look like the old ones but don't perform like old ones per online reviews.I also have a new 41 with a Reddot for old eyes, but I shoot the High Standard with open sights, in fact I shot it yesterday at the range. Good Shooting and Good Luck with retirement.

Welcome from the SE corner of PA and congratulations on your retirement. I can't wait for mine. I have a model 41 and love it. I seldom go to the range without one S&W .22 or another and most days its the 41.

Welcome from Texas malone12346. Great forum, have fun, learn lots, share what you know.

For what it is worth, my Ruger Mark II shoots a whole lot better than I do.

Comments from various forums are as follows:
S&W Model 41- problems with current models, buy older model. Most reliable & accurate.Pricey at $900 for new.
High Standard new Victor- quality not same as old models-magazine problems.$800 a lot of money for problems.
Ruger- medium to good accuracy but a bitch to clean.Great pointer.
Browning Buch Mark-Looks like the best buy.Easy to clean and medium to good accuracy and reliable.
I can't afford more than one.I like the Model 41 best but don't want problems.Leaning toward Buck Mark.
Confused-need help.
