What does everyone think about the new Mustangs, Camaros, and Challengers?

I have test driven the V6 and GT 2010 Mustang, and V6 Challenger. Haven't gotten to the Camaro yet.

Both Mustangs handle great, especially for a solid rear axle, and the 210 HP V6 in the Mustang felt more lively than the 250 HP V6 in the Dodge. The Challenger felt real lazy to me, steering, engine, and handling all very numb.

Still waiting to try out the Camaro, pretty impressive that GM was able to make over 300 horsepower out of a naturally aspirated six cylinder.

Wait til the 2011 Mustang comes out; any day now. The V6 makes around 300hp, and the 5.0 V-8 is back, with 412hp. The new V8 is a normally aspirated 5.0 with double overhead camshafts and 32 valves. Ought to put that UGLY (in my opinion) Camaro out to pasture, especially considering that it is lighter than the Camaro.

the V8 callenger is a BEAST and probably may favorite of the 'throw back' cars, it looks more original than I expected

The Challenger is the same exact platform as my 300C, it's HEAVY.... How heavy you ask? Try 4160lbs with a V8 (and not much less with a V6). While I personally feel the Challenger is the best looking of the bunch (I am a Mopar guy) it will never perform box stock like the other two, just because it's so much heavier. The R/T version with the Hemi or the SRT8 is really the only way to go with these heavy cars. The Hemi makes phenomenal torque and the car is comfortable to drive daily.

The Camaro has the edge in HP, Braking and Handling, it weighs less and performs better and it looks "good" but I still think the Challenger looks GREAT!

First, let me say that i own a 1995 Mustang ragtop GT with 5 sp.and many upgrades.IMHO,this may be the last time the muscle car wars will be fought.I saw the new Camaro[V/8-6 sp.-red] yesterday and have seen the new Mustang,Camaro and Challanger many times. They are all great!I raced my brand new 1965 Mustang fastback many times against the originals, and,IMHO,the newer ones would beat them in all ways.Long live the new muscle cars! :) Plus the new ones have great stereos, air cond. and all the things we have come to love.

They are all just lame attempts to bring back something that we will never see again.

Yeah, but people still stare at my wife in her '65 Mustang at a stoplight. ;) There's a style to the originals that the new ones will never duplicate. As for the creature comforts, she decided on a Mercedes as a daily driver.

Mopar

Pros: Perhaps the best-looking of the new "retro" muscle cars, decent power

Cons: Heavy car, Chrysler engineering, expensive to compete with Camaro power-wise

Mustang

Pros: Another the designers got right looks-wise, affordable

Cons: The least powerful engines, belly button car (everyone's got one), expensive to compete with Camaro power-wise

Camaro

Pros: Most powerful, top-notch engineering, affordable

Cons: Probably the ugliest of the bunch, looks big/heavy- not what a Camaro is supposed to be

An unabashed GM fan, the Camaro is my pick as the best bang for buck. The LS engines enjoy the most factory support along with the largest aftermarket making big power easily attainable and affordable if top dog on the street status is the goal. The Challenger and Mustang do look better, more true to the original designs, though, I'll admit.

I'm one of those guys who'd consider either the Mopar or Mustang and drop a GM engine in it and have the best of both worlds. :)

I think db is spot on...the Challenger looks really cool, although I saw once the other day in brown...what was that guy thinking? The Camaro is a great car, but Chevy has trouble keeping their cars from looking cheap...the trim around the rear lights looks almost Chinese toyish...and don't get me started on American dashes...they really need to euro them up a bit...:)

The funny thing is... the V6 mustang will scare the Challenger R/T to death on the drag strip and will own its soul on a roadcourse.
And thanks for using the proper term "Pony Car" and not Muscle Car.
The mustang and camaro V8s are so close now that it comes down to the driver... I LOVE it.

I only wish Ford would have stuck with the 2005-2009 body style a while longer. The 2010 and newer just kinda leave me wanting. The front is only ok, and the back borders on cheap. I love the sequential taillight signals, but the corners are chopped off, and the black textured plastic bottom valance really does me in. The '05-'09 style is just awesome and has all the thowbacks to the classic '68-'69 style fastback. Even the interior looks better to me in the '05-'09.

as an artist, the 69 mustang is the ultimate interpretation ... as an engineer, 87 - 94 post TRX suspension mustangs were the highest evolution.
Dodge, sadly, will drop the ball on every performance car they build until they start listening to the customer base.
first ... we need cars ... not mechanical experiments.
second ... looks cool is not a stand alone feature.
third ... whats with the charger having 4 doors anyhow? fire the design team already

I'm not sure about the whole story behind the Camaro yet. so far it looks like they have grasped the drive train concept though the new interpretation could likely benefit from Jenny Craig.

Growing up in the 70's, I'm not a big fan of the new generation muscle cars.

But I do like the looks of the Challenger and the Camaro. Never been a Mustang fan.

But I must say, anyone of them would be better than the "little Honda boys" that drive around with holes drilled in thier tail pipe.

If I could afford any one of those, I would instead buy a classic and restore it if I had to.

Had a 69 Plymouth GTX when I was a kid. Sure was dumb too sell it.

My wife got a 2010 Camaro SS/RS with the LS3 and manual trans. For a 426 HP heavy car, it gets 18 mpg around town and so far, the engine is not broke in yet, has gotten 23.8 MPG on the Hiway. This was not staying in 6th gear by the way but going from 4th, to 5th and 6th to vary the rpm's until it's broke in. The car is fantastic but does have some rear visibility issues until you find out how to deal with them.
