A week ago I ordered a set of Hogue cocobolos for my new 617 and 63. They arrived today - Unfortunately the set for the 63 were square butt and don't fit as the original 63's were square butt and new 63's are round butt as are all new SW's. I'd explained that when I ordered but guess it got lost somehow. Anyway, they were great. they are exchanging the J frame square for the round and reimbursing me for the return shipping. Can't beat that. And the conversions for the 617 are great.

Great looking grips for a great looking gun! I prefer wood myself. The rubber ones that come on a Smith these days do nothing for me at all.

I just got a 4" 617 and was wondering which grip to change to...now I know! Thanks for the pic, I gotta learn how to do that one of these days.

Alphabrace, I tried to reply to your IM but didn't appear as though it went. If your new Smith's engraving/stamping doesn't look right and distracts from the appearance of the gun, I'd call S&W Customer Service. They're really great.

Also, join photobucket for picture posting - easy to use. Think directions have been posted on this board already.

Love your wood combats! However practical the rubber grips are, they just don't have the appeal of a nice set of wood or stag.

I recently put a set of the wood Miculek grips from Dillon on my 6" 617, and like them. I prefer a grip with no finger-grooves personally. I agree that the current rubber grips on many S&Ws are seriously ugly, and I'm not nuts about the way they feel or handle either, I like a grip that has some slippage to it for some reason.
