I recently acquired this Army issue 1911, manufactured in 1917. With the original grips being rather fragile, I removed them for safe keeping. I've tried several replacements, a few from my stash, as well as a new pair from Wood Caliber. None of them had the correct look. Wrong color, incorrect design elements, or just too new and nice.

I then noticed Tisas sells grips individually and ordered a set of dark walnut. I figured, for $20 I couldn't go wrong, and wouldn't it be just the thing for the cheapies to work out. Well, after they arrived I applied some stain, to mimic the reddish tint that old vintage US military wood always has (since Tisas kindly chose not to finish them) and bam, perfect.

Nice grip choice.

Thanks for sharing them.

I had the same conundrum in that I didn't want to possibly damage the original grips on my 1918 Colt Black Army.

I went with VZ Grips in the traditional double diamond in "Black Cherry" to mimic the darkening many 1911 grips get over time.
