I recently took possession of my new M&P 9. I have not yet sent in my Warranty Registration Card to Smith & Wesson.

What thoughts do you folks have on doing this. Is it really necessary to claim warranty if the situation arises?

Are there any real benefits to sending in the card?

What are the pros and cons of registering or not registering a new purchase with S&W?

Have any of you done this?

Looking for your input.

Unless it has changed in NYS you do not have to send in cards like that or call/computer in. Having your DATED proof of purchase will cover it when and if service is required! I have a large envelope and always save my proofs until the warranty period is over. Check and see if your state works that way!

I've yet to send any of mine in... I also haven't required any warranty work, I doubt it would ever be an issue. I never send warranty cards in for anything.

I always register mine online with S&W. Saves a stamp, quick & easy. I don't know if there's any benefit to it or not, but I like to be sure. If you're worried about a paper trail, its probably too late already.

I also do mine online. It takes about 2 minutes.

I register mine on line too, but you don't have to. Those cards are one way that companies gather marketing data. This is a good thing because it drives the products they make. By including your data, it increases the chances that any company will make stuff you want.

I have sent a couple of things to S&W for warranty repair. One was a gun that I had never registered with them. They didn't care. It was a gun they made so, they fixed it.

Thanks all. Question answered, my primary concern was that the warranty would not be honored if needed. I figured that as long as I could prove proof of purchase that S&W would stand behind their product.

That being said I will register. I don't mind them learning the demographics and interests of their customers in order to progress their business.

Thanks much

DOH!!!! Guess what it says at the bottom of the online and mail in registration card????

"Failure to return this card will not diminish your warranty rights."

By the way I did register it on line.

Timely thread. I just registered both of mine online last night.

I read a thread about warranty work a couple days ago. I think the guy can't remember who, called in for warranty work, they checked and it wasn't registered. He registered and got warranty work. I think it is suppose to have something to do with recalls more. Also if you sell and don't register the next guy could use it as I think lifetime warranty is for original purchaser, but not sure I would have to read my cards I didn't send in.

While I can't speak for S&W, as I've never purchased one new, but many times I've purchased used HK's, & Beretta's, & applied for a warranty online, & been issued it, even on 10 year old guns. This means the original owner never applied for a warranty, & I never had to show proof of purchase from the original sale. While I did get my M&P40c used from my brother, I never asked him if he got a warranty for it. The 5 year old gun has fired 150 rounds, & still looks new. GARY
