Okay thinking on a new handgun. Went to the LGS and was messing with some handguns. I have a m&p 40c, ruger sr22, and a smith wesson 625-2 5 inch barrel.

I'm thinking on for a 9mm:
Cz USA sp-01 9mm
Smith wesson m&p 9 full size

For 357 magnum:
Smith 66 or 686. My LGS has a nice 66

And a 1911 for a 45
I like the rock island armory 1911 but if I pay 1000 it would be on a smith wesson

What are you guys thinking? The m&p 9 full size might be the pick. My LGS is having smith and wesson day on Saturday and thinking on buying that.

Tough call, you have picked some very fine candidates in full sized handguns. While the M&P9 is a fine gun, I'm not a big fan of striker fired pistols, even thought I own a full sized M&P45. Striker fired guns just have horrible triggers, you can make them better, but never as nice as a CZ, 1911, or a wheelgun trigger comes out of the box. Since I already have K and L framed wheelguns, and I have never owned a reliable 1911, I would go with the CZ, I've always had a hankering for one of those fine Czech firearms, but then your not buying it for me. :)

Everyone should have a 1911. I have a Rock Island Armory 1911-A1 Tactical. It is not fancy, but it's been 100% reliable. In fact, it's been more reliable than my M&P 45. I say get that.

Since the LGS is having a Smith and Wesson Day, I vote for the 66. I have the snubby version, and it's one of my favorite carries. I also have a six-inch 686+ that I use for targets, and hope to use for hunting next fall. You really couldn't go wrong with either model. I hope what they have at your LGS is in good shape and reasonably priced. Happy shopping, and please let us know how it works out.
