New guy Building SBR

Love mine, factory cut to 6" and about 2k rounds thru it with no problems.

Awesome, looks great! What rail covers are those and how about the little nub piece on the bottom rail? where did you get that?

Those are the Troy rail covers and GearSector hand stop. GS makes awesom stuff and Jason Trusty is one hell of a guy to deal with, lifetime customer here.

Low Down, your SBR looks great with the suppressor. Without the suppressor, the barrel is silly short. Is your GS hand stop on backwards? It looks like it would be a lot more flesh friendly with the radius towards your hand.

It can go either way, I just found this to be more comfortable then the other way.

Low Down,
A question for you. I have both the M&P15-22 and 15-22P. I am currently waiting on the paperwork to arrive for my suppressor. I plan to swap the suppressor back and forth between the two M&P's and a Sig Pistol. For the M&P pistol I have acquired a rifle handguard and am going to be trimming it down a bit and swapping it for the super shorty one. It's going to end up exactly like what you have already done, but still in the pistol platform.
So to the question in all this....How do you secure the barrel when you re-torqued the barrel nut? Once it's down inside the new longer handguard there is nothing left exposed to clamp in the vice jaws.

I've always just used the upper receiver. The barrels isn't tight like it is on a regular AR. Should I do it this way? Probably not but I haven't ever had issues with doing it this way.

Awesome, I have a Gearsector sling and its quality, off I go to spend some money!

Low Down

I'm waiting on my stamp now who did the marking of your receiver?

My local gunsmith. He's 10 min away from house. I have him thread and crown all my barrels. Former marine and long range shooter.

Thanks.

How and where was it marked?

My current SBR is marked on the front of the Magwell but it is aluminum.

What do you mean how? It meets all ATF requirements. I had mine marked on the right side of the magwell. I wanted it under the trigger but he wouldn't do it there. I'm sending my current SBR build off to Ident to be done under the trigger.

thanks and ammo question

First the question. With your barrel cut to 6" do you still have to use subsonic ammo or can you use reg bulk ammo and stay subsonic? EDIT- Duh it would be the same as my can on my pistol and would need subsonic ammo.

Secondly a big thanks for your info. This just answered about 10 questions for me in regards to barrel reinstallation.

I own the 15-22 rifle and 15-22 pistol but always wanted a internally suppressed 15-22 sbr. The pistol has rarley been used and just never had a "fit" with me like I thought it would. I also own a YHM suppressor 22 that I really like.

I plan to take my pistol and cut the barrel down to 3.5 to 4 in and re thread and re install using a longer hand guard that I will cutdown to desired length. Then my YHM suppressor will thread onto newly cut barrel and down into the hand guard and stick out approx 2 inches or so (or what ever looks correct). Total length with barrel and suppressor will be right around 9-10 inches.

Then after sbr paperwork comes back, engrave reciever and add buttstock adaptor and buttstock. Turning the pistol into a internally looking supressed sbr.

My thoughts on this:
-Cutting the barrel down to 4 in will allow bulk ammo to stay subsonic.
-It still allows me to use the suppressor on multiple hosts.
-Turns something I currently dont care much for into a bad ace toy.
-Since I have most of the big ticket items cost is not a issue.

Only negative on this is this platform would always need to have the supressor installed to use. But I honestly dont think it will come off much once I have it set up this way. :) And the short barrel will effect accuracy.

I have two Ruger pistols, 4.5'' and 5.5" barrels. Typical bulk HV ammo stays subsonic with 4.5" but not with the 5.5". That said, I can buy CCI Standard Velocity at Dick's Sporting Goods for $25/500 which isn't that much of a premium to pay over HV bulk, and CCI SV stays subsonic in 16''+ length barrels.

Even at a 6" barrel, I can still hit 2" spinner targets offhand at 50 yards with a red dot. I'm almost tempted to do another now, its just way too much fun.
