Hey guys. Just wanted to say hello. I am new here and was just given a couple of S&Ws. One has 6" barrel?brushed stainless or nickle finish and very nice reddish colored wood grips. The other is blued with black grips a about a 4" barrel. Both are 44 mags. The other is a high polished SS or nickle finish with wood grips in 357. I also got a few other colts but that's a diff forum. Where should I start to research my Smiths?

Post some pictures in one of the revolver forums. You can determine the models on by looking at the stamping inside the crane with the cylinder open. Likely you will see sometHing like Model 29-?? or 629-?? The number following the dash is the number that designates the version number of the model.

Nice gifts. My brother and I received some nice ones after our Dad passed but we'd rather have him.
You will get better responses in the column specifically for your gun in the correct forum. I think you used it on your first posts about the scoped 29. Go to FORUM and click on S&W Revolvers: 1961 to 1980.
The best way to date them and get some awesome information is to buy the S&W book. Mine went to storage when we put our house on the market. I should have kept it out as it is needed since I bought a few more Smiths. Do as I say, not as I did, keep it handy....
