New Horn

Finally got around to making up my new horn...

Picked it up unfinished off a trade blanket. No carving, not bored, crude base plug was in it. It changes color in different light, sometimes in direct sunshine almost a blue, other times a greyish brown Liked its left hand form and colors. It was also cheap, like me...

Anyrate, decided to shorten it and make a lobed horn. Here she is 4hrs later...

Is the horn suspended from the lobes? If not, what are they for?

Yes... The hornstrap ties off to the two holes in the lobe. It is a early manner of attachment. As is the hand forged staple in the front...

I have been thinking about buying a horn and ran across one made of buffalo horn in a catalog.

Looks good in the pics, but I am wondering where the horn is likely to have come from and if it is likely worth the (cheap) price.
Can you shed any light on this?

Me neither....especially since they took so much of my old horn in the prostate surgery.

I'd love to get a NEW Horn!

no, not like surgery horn or beep beep....I was thinking like wind instruments....even if it's not one named "horn" or with "horn" in the name...we tend to call them horns.

Beautiful powder horn. Like the fiddle peg stopper. There's always more pride in carrying something you did yourself.

They make a good horn. Not fancy, but they get the job done. All a horn really has to do is carry your powder and be airtight. Most likely, the cheap horns come from Pakistan or India.
