Looking for a new grip for my 640-1 and was wondering how you folks like the new J frame grips that come on the revolvers. Looking at the boot style.

I've tried the new boot grips...not bad

I carry a 337 J frame and have big hands. All these grips are insufficient to me. I put Crimson Trace on the 337. Still a small grip for my big mitts, but what a tremendous improvement for me, also improved my hold with it turned off. I had know idea the training tool it would became.

I can hit 1.5 at +15ft, rapid fire. That's more than enough for me and all I need.

For my situation, I wouldn't rely on a CCW without Crimson Trace grips.

Even in the picture I just took...that looks like a weenie gun. Maybe it's the angle...no I got big hands and it's a small gun.
No wonder I love 29's and 500's

CT works for me in the smallest situation

I definitely like my Crimson Trace LG-405's.

I tried the fishscale boot grips on my 442, sucked. Didn't cover the backstrap high enough for my hand size. I put a set of Hogue Rosewood 3 finger grips on it and shot it much better. Then I put a set of CT 305 on my 442, love it! Going to try the boot grip next; I may just carry 2 J frames. Prob put the boot grip on the 442 for lighter/easier conceal in a pocket and get a 640 for IWB carry with the 3 finger grip, or just get another 442 and do 1 IWB, 1 pocket carry. Love the way the J frames shoot!

My only problem with the boot style grips is the fact that most leave your pinkie hanging in the breeze..making the recoil a bit more of a handful. That last finger on the grip controls recoil far better, at the cost of conceal-ability.

If you have the money and like the laser, the CT grips are nice. But if not the best inexpensive j-frame grips I have found for both concealment and recoil are the stock rubber grips off the small-framed Taurus revolvers. They cover both front and back straps like the CT laser grips, they are a semi-hard pebbly textured rubber, and they are very inexpensive. Like under 10 bucks.

Thanks for the suggestion. I just tried the Taurus Grips on my 442. I carry the 442 in my off hand or left front pocket as back up. I haven't shot it yet but it feels like it fills my hand better. I'll have to try to get to the Range soon to see how they handle the Recoil.

So what model taurus grips are you guys using? any pictures?

I like the new factory grips. Went to an Ahrend's boot grip, and +P loads were hell. Went back to the factory, +Ps are now tolerable and more concealable. Not as pretty though.

For pocket or ankle carry I prefer Uncle Mike boot grips since a J-frame especially the lighter weight ones are meant to be light and easy to carry as well as conceal, but Pachmayr Compac's are nice if you have a bigger hand or belt carry. (Although they can be pocket carried in the right pants.)

The older style magna stocks with a grip adapter from BK or Tyler T works well and looks good.

Not the best photo but here are some UM's on a 642.

640 with magnas and BK grip adapter.

Sorry but I don't have any with the Compac's.
