New K22

I was able to break my New Year's resolution today, and picked up a decent K22 at a gun show. K 196xxx places it at 1953. My only other K22 is a 17-2, but I always admired the less glossy finish of the earlier K22s, and of course just the general cool factor.

I didn't get a steal, but I don't think I got hosed either. ($636 out the door with a set of what I believe to be Herrett's target grips - post on that to follow.)

One of the best feelings in the world is to come home with a new K-22. Congratulations on your find.

I have K196446, which was probably on the assembly line about the same time as yours and seems to be in similar condition. This one shipped in December 1953. I bought it about 18 months ago when prices on the five-screw K-22s were climbing, and I paid a little more than what you did -- without the added bonus of some target stocks. You did all right today.

David, my last three digits are 615, which puts ours just 169 apart! Amazing to think we have two guns that are 57 years old and were worked on by the same production line people within a very short time of each other.

K 22's are the "must have" Smith & Wesson revolver.

I Kept My New Year's Resolution

I was able to KEEP my New Year's resolution last weekend and bought a 1957 vintage K-38 in excellent (98%) condition, along with box and papers (sorry, no pics at the moment. Will try to show some in the next couple of days).I think people have the concept of resolutions for the New Year backwards. Instead of swearing OFF things, we should be vowing to DO things! And I've vowed to do a few other things this New Year...!
