I've got an LCP. It's a great pocket .380.... but...

Oversized sights and trigger bling on a pocket gun? What are the big sights for, competition pocket snags?

I'm satisfied with mine.
I use to carry a .25 Colt Vest Pocket before retiring it for the Ruger.

I have only one .380, the LCP. I did quite a bit of reading about pocket .380s before purchasing the Ruger. It's among the smallest and lightest. Ruger did an excellent job rounding all the edges and corners. There's nothing to snag coming out of the pocket. No miniature external safeties to fumble with. All the positives I read about reliability I have found to be true. 100%.

The trigger is decent for what it is (which isn't saying much) but an old fat half blind man can still find the target at 7yds, even without target sights and trigger bling.

As far as the Glock 42.... that's kinda in it's own class with the Ruger LC380. It's the size of other subcompact 9mm and isn't something I would consider a pocket gun. I think it fits a niche for those who are recoil sensitive or need more gun to hold on to. These little pocket .380s require a commanding grip to ensure reliable cycling. You could have fun shooting a couple hundred rounds at the range with the 42 and LC380. The LCP and others in it's size and weight class are a bit punishing.

I've always been very happy with my Ruger LCP.

Let's face it. The only ones who have ever complained about it are those who expect it to be something it isn't and never was intended to be.

It's not a target pistol!! It was designed to be an up-close-and-personal, in-your-face, spittin' distance, personal defense weapon. Period!

If you'll notice, the main complaint from these so-called "experts" is that the gun doesn't have great sights. Aw, c'mon folks! Gimme a break!!

When your attacker is two feet away from you, believe me, you aren't going to worry much about whether you're in the Weaver stance, the modern Isosceles, or if your sights are lined up.

All you'll be worrying about is whether your gun shoots at Minute Of Belly Button.

Another thing people griped about with the LCP was trigger pull. Years ago, I had the opportunity of chatting with the late Bob Munden about trigger pull in small personal defense guns. According to him, when you're carrying something like that around in your front pocket, you don't want a light trigger. Too much of a chance of an AD during the excitement while you're pulling it out of your pocket.

I'm thinking that Ruger was just trying to appease some of this smack and give them what they want. Heck, if these bozos want to sight the "new and improved" LCP in at 50 yards, fine with me. Personally, I'll keep the one that I've got and be perfectly happy with it.

My LCP is the smallest platform to launch a 380. Any smaller or lighter it would be uncontrollable.

Its handy as heck to carry in a pocket when I can't take my 637.

The LCP was an up grade from my Beretta 21A. LCP is one ounce heavier and smaller.

My LCP is a great little gun. Can't see how those things they've added could be an improvement. It was my second handgun. I made it usable for target shooting with 3 dabs of white nail polish and it still slips out of my pocket smoothly. Target practicing with it actually made me a better shooter with my 1911 and probably as well with my future double action revolvers. The new 7 round magazine was a useful improvement. If anybody thinks its trigger pull is too long or heavy, they should try an LC9. I don't use it for target shooting anymore now that I've discovered the S&W .357 revolvers, but it is a damn fine little pocket gun no matter what I'm wearing.

Ain't that the truth! Makes ya wonder why some folks choose the guns they do. Buy a 9oz pocket gun just to bellyache that it's not 1911 with adjustable target sights. Speaking of... the guy at the Club who showed me his new LCP (same as the pic) made sure to tell me that the rear sight could be adjusted with a drift punch which was an "upgrade".
