Dang it, I just bought a standard gray M&P Metal M2.0 without a threaded barrel and with low sights. Decisions, decisions. LOL

Already got my standard grey and no regrets. How many of us are really gonna put a can on the end of our pistols and carry it that way. Threaded barrels are for SWAT, Hollywood, and Steven Segal wanna be's.

I've been really impressed with my 2023 Spec Series model. I think they are realizing people will buy decent quality guns again. For awhile it seemed like all their offerings were either ugly as sin, as cheap as possible, or $1,500 I hadn't been interested in any new S&W semi-autos since I got shooting back in 2012 and now they have piqued my interest.

Metallica

Interesting. I got the Email this morning. Definitely
got me interested.

I’m curious if the Slide is on the Rails or rides on
a modular chassis within the frame.

Also of interest is the technology used to make
the frame.

Is that a serious comment? Handguns are for more than just carrying concealed. Suppressors are very useful for hearing protection, and they'd be a lot more common if it wasn't for all the NFA nonsense.

Recent ATF NFA approvals are taking less than a week in many cases, and that's going to encourage suppressor purchases. I guess there's the "It's a trap!" argument, but ATF already knows about me and my other purchases.

I want a metal 4” Compact, preferably with the burnt bronze slide.

Yes it is. I know, hearing protection. Use ear muffs or inner ear protection. When I go to my indoor range I use 2 kinds of protection. Do you only shoot pistols that have suppressors? I can understand if you have a hunting rifle and want to put a suppressor on it but, a clearly intended duty or concealed carry pistol? I don't fault anyone for getting a suppressor but, are they really needed for a carry gun?????

Not really. Suppressors and comp's are fun. S&W refusal to not sell the black Metal to anyone but LEO is stupid.

Not all my guns are for Carry or home protection. Some of them are just for fun, you know, cause guns can be fun too.

Some here and on many other forums will tell you that their guns are only for serious use because they think they are some kind of self proclaimed badass.

There are a few members here who have stated this many times.

It's just the way it is sometimes, and arguing with them will just bring out more of their badassery. Can't help themselves.

I'm not really talking about the member you quoted but this did remind me of this.

Those of us own more than 7 guns buy more than 50% of the guns sold. Once you get to that level you are buying some guns just because you want them. Nothing wrong with that, I do all the time.

I agree that a suppressor on a carry gun doesn't make any sense. But I disagree that the metal M&P is designed as a carry gun. Its larger and heavier than most guns designed for civilian carry making it more of a duty, home defense and range gun. Since it is more expensive than the polymer version without offering any significant advantage most of the people buying it are going to be gun enthusiasts, not police departments or those looking for a carry gun. And us gun enthusiasts do like stuff like suppressors.

I shoot mostly at an private outdoor gun club which is not nearly as noisy as a tightly packed indoor range. But even then I am often close enough to others that I would wear hearing protection most of the time even if I did own a suppressor. Suppressors are cool but not cool enough for me to buy one so I also prefer guns without a threaded barrel. But it wouldn't stop me from buying a gun with one if I wanted it.

I can’t believe in 2024 someone even asks this question. Where have you been for the last decade+?

If everybody here is honest with themselves, a can is a luxury not a necessity, which brings me back to my original point of SWAT, Hollywood and Steven Segal wanna be's. Never did I say that was a problem but, in every day use it is more about lookin cool than anything else. I have seen the individuals on the range with a suppressor surrounded by people that don't have one. Ssssoooooooooo.......

Just because the S&W Metals are a little more expensive, don't count out agencies from using them, they get their deals from Smith and the larger orders to the point where it is feasible to outfit their Dept.

Ever fired a firearm inside a room? A can is a great idea on an HD firearm. Unless you sleep with hearing protection.

I would assume that you would be referring to a self defense situation.?.? I think I would be more concerned with stopping the bad guy first and then my hearing. How many people here have a silencer on their bedside pistol?

Anyway, not trying to disparage anyone that has one, just saying that it really doesn't make a difference in the long run. I think they need to make versions that don't have threads on the barrel.

First of all there's no such thing as a silencer. It's called a suppressor. The word silencer actually did come from hollywood and is a myth.

And in all fairness you kind of did disparage people who own suppressors by calling them Steven Seagal wannabes here, so yeah there's that also.

Plus you're showing your age with the Steven Seagal comments because now it's John Wick wannabes not Steven Seagal. I'm old and even I know this lol!

I am going to agree with you though that I definitely hope they come out with some versions that don't have threaded barrels because I don't have any “suppressors”. If I could get one I definitely would though, but I can't, so I guess that makes me a Steven Seagal wannabe too.

Actually that is not true, the inventor of the Silencer called it a Silencer.

Being called a Steven Segal wanna be is not all that bad, I heard he was/is a really good shot. Just sayin when his movies first came out I really liked him and the movies. Also, in one of his movies, he used a 2 liter bottle.

OK I stand corrected.

Still, nobody calls them a silencer anymore, and Steven's first movies were ok, but he did turn out to be quite a foul ball.

I also think you should try that 2 liter bottle and make a video of it, and post it here when you do.

Would be pretty sweet.
