New M&P 45 M2.0 sear/field strip question?

Hello! At first, I apologize as I thought taking down the new m&p would be simple as I tried fieldstripping it without reading the manual.

So I'm a Walther guy and I thought I wouldn't need to do much else, but I found out that there is this sear release lever you have to press before moving the slide (after flipping down the takedown lever of course). So what I did was try to push the slide off by hand with some brute strength but couldn't get it to come off. I also accidentally released the slide while the takedown lever was 90 degrees. I figured it out eventually, but I inspected to see what kept the slide onto the frame even with the take down lever at 90 degrees and it was not only the sear release lever, but the silverish sear on the middle of the polymer frame as well.

So my question is:

1. Would forcing the slide to slide off the frame by hand once or a few times and the slide accidentally releasing and going forward while the takedown lever was flipped down at a 90 degrees and not pushing the sear release lever down damage the sear or any other parts of the firearm?

PS: Sorry for the mistake I made.

Thanks!

We all make mistakes so don't feel bad. To answer the question, it's hard to say if you damaged the sear or other parts. You would have to look carefully to see and function check then fire the pistol.

I never use the sear release. Just make sure the gun is empty, check again, and pull the trigger to release the slide.

If the sear is damaged a replacement is easy if you have some punches and are comfortable with disassembly. Plenty of YouTube videos to help. You could even upgrade to an Apex sear.

Thanks everyone! I hope to shoot it next week. I live in Canada so I have to wait for my registration certificate before I can even transport my new pistol to the range.
