New m&p 9 full ftf with magazine release for lefty

I used one of the foam sanding blocks for drywall. Im sure just sandpaper would work fine.

Just for clarity did you take it off the top of the follower on the corner on the front face of the follower on the corner?

I rounded the top on the offending corner which is if looking from the rear, the front left corner. Then rounded the edge for the height of the follower.

Okay thank you. Picking up some sandpaper sponges now

Just finished doing 5 of my 6 magazines. Ended up taking a dremmel tool to the corner lol. Works great now cycling with snap caps. The one I left still hangs. Will get to the range tomorrow. Thanks for all the help everyone. Will probably not send it out and will call them instead next week.

Got to the range today. 150 rounds withOut a single issue. Thanks again

Awesome. Thanks for the pictures. I'll give it a try filing it down and try it tomorrow after work.

You are treating a symptom.

The problem is the mag release is extending too far into the magazine and there is more mag follower to catch on a left handed gun. The solution is to get a correctly dimensioned mag release or grind down the tab on the one you have.

Removing material from the follower is secondary to correcting the problem with the mag release itself.

No, the problem is in the design of the follower. The mag release works just as it was intended do. The follower just was not designed with that consideration. It should have been molded with a notch for clearance. When loaded with rounds, it pushes the follower away from the right side, so it will never catch with right side release. It is forced to the left side and right towards the window and the release catch.

What is curious to me is how long this weapon has been on the market and the problem still exists.

you know you are right. Cause that notch gets stuck regardless

Your choice; polish/shorten the catch once or modify every follower you put in the gun.

Me personally, I would not choose to willingly compromise the magazine catch. I would rather spend a few minutes modifying a magazine than drop a mag in a fire fight and loose.

Only thing makes me wonder about this also is I have a vtac full size I bought. Switched it over to lefty and it works fine with supplied mags( are different. Release whole on bottom is different). I put my Pre- modified mags in the vtac and same problem. Put vtac mags in reg m&p problem is there. Put modified mags in either, both guns work great. Guess I could try mag release from vtac in the regular one and see but modifying mags works fine for me
