I took delivery of my new pistol this afternoon. Nothing seemed out of place. While it seems to have the typical "new gun gritties," the trigger still broke fairly crisply and seemed to be in the five pound range. It also has a positive reset. I took it down and cleaned out the gunk, and applied a coat of Slip 2000 synthetic lube. Tomorrow, barring anyone from coming up with something to screw up my day, it goes to the range. If the break-in goes according to what I expect, then I have a set of Heinie Ledge Straight 8s to be installed. Best thing about it is that it fits the holsters I have for the 45 FS, although I will need new mag pouches - the ones for the 45 are too big. Anyway, I'll keep you all posted on how it goes with a properly lubed new gun at the range.

Excellent, thorough explanation...but not for the faint of heart or mechanically challenged like me. My new M&P full size 9mm has a HORRIBLE trigger pull - maybe 12 lbs. plus - a MAJOR disappointment. I am considering "dumping" it and going back to find another home defense gun. Regards, Ed

Don't give up yet. Get the Apex Forward Set Sear kit. It turns an otherwise mediocre trigger into a good one.

Much less expensive than switching guns.

Well, I got 'er to the range this afternoon. I shot 200 rounds - 100 Winchester 124 grain Ranger FMJ; 50 Federal 147 grain Hydra Shok, and 50 Winchester 147 grain Ranger Bonded HP. I had ZERO malfunctions. Here's what I observed.

TRIGGER: The gritty feeling the trigger had out of the box went away. This trigger is fine for a duty pistol, which is what it will be used for.

EXTRACTION/EJECTION: I was on an indoor range so this may be relative to the environment, but I did not observe any erratic ejection. Nothing hit me in the face or head. I watched my son shoot it and everything seemed like it was supposed to. If, on an outdoor square range it lobs hot brass down the collar of the shooter to my right, I can live with that. I occasionally have to shoot with a couple of jerks and it is always a pleasure to watch them doing a little dance on the line...

ACCURACY: The pistol was more accurate that I was! I can't really say how accurate it is, but it was capable of shooting tight groups once in a while. With 124 grain ball, it was capable of four-five inch groups off-hand at 25 yards with me doing the shooting. Today, I revisited an old habit of jerking the trigger and threw a few ruining otherwise decent groups.

Overall, this pistol demonstrated reliability. Of course I cleaned and lubed it before going to the range and didn't try to shoot it dry. I don't care for the sights, but can't say that they had anything to do with my lousy shooting today. Anyway, they're getting replaced with Heinies. I will be practicing what I preach and working on my dry fire for a while. I do like this pistol.
