I just bought a new M&P 9c and want to know if there is a proven trigger modification that experts recommend. I plan to use this gun for concealed carry. Any suggestions?

Shoot a few hundred rounds through it before you start thinking about modifications. You might like the way it is. I have a 9c that is my carry piece and it's completely stock. I also have a FS and a 9L CORE that I use for competition. Those have been modified but only after careful consideration on what I actually wanted.

Agreed. I modify my competition guns, but my carry guns are box stock.

I agree that you should put 500 or so rounds through your 9c before considering a modification. I shot about 700 rounds through mine and the trigger was still a little too gritty for me. I did the Apex modification and am extremely happy. The stock trigger wasn't too bad but the Apex is really nice.

Here's a link to Apex Tactical but I've read on this forum where you can get the modification cheaper. I got the combined forward set sear and trigger kit.

I have a .357c and a 40c. I am happy with both guns out of the box. Also a consideration is that you might not want to carry a modified gun for self defense...have heard it can be an issue used against you by an aggressive DA. Just as a precaution I carry factory SD loads and not my own loads so there isn't any room for opinion on that as well. JMHO.

The triggers on the M&P's have really improved over the last couple of years...the advice to shoot it for a while is spot on. You may be pleasantly surprised!

My mp9c trigger was not too bad. I eventually replaced the usb with the Apex version to get rid of the grittiness, but did not really find much else I needed to do to it.

I take that back a little, am still not a real fan of the two part trigger. I may have to do something about that part someday.

Enjoy your 9c. I carry mine often in iwb mode and I find it carries great for me, even with it being a double stack.

lhump1969,
I am a new owner of a 9c and I have heard a lot about the APEX kits. I have a 1911 background (started competing in the '80's) and I also have been shooting striker guns for about a year now (Steyrs in both 40 and 9 and now the S&W 9c). I am not ready to put down the $ for the APEX kit yet. I am also hesitating because if, God forbid, I have to use it in self defense, I am afraid putting the kit in could be seen as "gunning" for the bad guy. The husband hates the feel of my Steyrs (he has not shot the S&W yet) and I thought putting the APEX kit in would make it feel more like a 1911 trigger and make him hate "plastic" guns less. Plus my old Springfield 1911 comp gun has a 4lb trigger and I am used to that. Though the stock trigger on the 9c does not bother me..

The Apex Forward Set Sear(FSS) kit does make a dramatic improvement to the M&P trigger. However, it does not make it a 1911. It's closer, but still not as crisp. I would classify it as a little spongier than the 1911.

Some just don't like polymer guns. You might put the best trigger ever in one and they still won't like it. Me, I don't care and I like my M&P guns. I like it better with the FSS in it, but it's still not a 1911.

I have had my MP9c for 5 years and as noted above just keep putting rounds through it. If you think it gets better after a few hundred you see how smooth it gets after a few thousand. Definitely my favorite carry piece, damn near point and shoot perfection. If it ain't broke.... don't fix it.

Can you cite an instance of a prosecutor doing this? If a self defense shoot is ruled legal, it shouldn't matter what you used. Deadly force is deadly force is deadly force.

Repeating this hogwash does no one any good.

Both my M&P9 and 9c have what I think are very nice triggers and I'm coming from a 1911. Are they the same? No, but they aren't bad. For a SD gun I will keep it stock and just shoot them, and shoot them and maybe even shoot them. So far both are flawless.

My EDC 9c is also 5 years old and I can relate to Captn Steve and the other posters here. Your trigger will smooth out with shooting and dry fire practice if you take advantage of that exercise. I also have 3 other M & Ps. Their triggers are all getting better the more I use them and I couldnt be happier with them.

Save your trigger money and invest in more ammo and range time.

And the legal advice you just posted is golden?????

I'm suggesting people ask questions and be careful...you're telling them it's all the same...don't worry about it. You pull this out of your law degree? Deadly force is NOT the same across the board! We are from all over and state laws vary widely...surprise, surprise.

As for the modified gun?...I meet a lot of LEO's in my job and have for years. The consensus I get from them and their years of seeing prosecuting attorneys is not to carry a modified gun or even your own hand loads. I brought it up as merely a "consideration"...I didn't try to sell it as legal advice!

So now newbies join and start acting like they know something...5 posts and criticizing already.

An actual expert (as opposed to a "weekend warrior" or "armchair special operations guy" would recommend that any pistol used for self-defense and carry be left stock.

If there is something WRONG with your trigger, send it to S&W for warranty repair. Otherwise, buy a bunch of ammo and shoot it. Several thousand times. Only by shooting will you learn to shoot. None of these unfortunate after market parts places will replace practice, but there are plenty of threads on here about damage done to perfectly fine guns trying to install such items or about perfectly fine pistols not working reliably after such installations.
