Hello,
I recently got the SW M&P 15-22 and back in the ROTC we only used the iron sights so I've been reading about the red dot sight/magnifier.
I saw some good combos in http://www.reloaderaddict.com/best-red-dot-magnifier-combo-sight-review/
What do you guys think about this combo? $53 Bushnell TRS-25 [ame]https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00200E0HM?tag=reloaderaddict-20[/ame]
$63 UTG 3x Magnifier - [ame]https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00S2FWRGK?tag=reloaderaddict-20[/ame]
Also, which rings should be used for these? Picatinny but not sure about specific sizes.
Thanks in advance!

P.S. Anyone knows which rings would match these?

Mine currently has a "Vortex Viper" on it..... 6" MOA dot for fast shooting.

I like the Bushnell TSR25 and have a couple on my Beretta 9mm CX4s. There's been a number of posts this past year.... that the older ones are better than the current crop...... can't comment myself on that....

The 15/22 isn't IMHO a precision target rifle .... but a understudy/trainer for an AR ....... or just plain fun at the range..... out to 100yds.

If you want magnification I'd suggest a 1-3 Weaver ($160ish) or 1-4x20 Leupold ($250ish)

That Bushnell/UTG combo works especially when you consider that the 1522 is not a 1 MOA or less rifle. It is a trainer for AR type rifles and an absolutely outstanding plinker/fun gun! If you have the budget put on an Eotech or Aimpoint but that makes no sense to me. I like the openess of a reflex sight and use a Sightmark Milspec version on my 1522. Its a good sight that didn't break my bank.

Have the 3moa Vortex Venom on mine and really like it. Crimson Trace CMR 206 laser (grn) on the bottom which has been super for armadillos and such at night. Currently have the Venom dialed in at 50 meters and the laser at 25. Plus the MBUSs. Nice little rig.

If you can afford it I recommend Vortex Strike Fire II. Don't have the magnifier but they make one. That's what I use on my 15-22.

Optics Planet had a coupon at the end of last month for like 30% off of one. It was around $130 for a few days. Gone now, but they still have some sort of coupon available on it. I've had great luck with mine.

Thanks for your replies! Glad to know I decided on a decent one. I have been considering the Vortex Strikefire II for my Ruger AR-556, but it's out of my price range for the 15-22.

Thanks for the tip on the Vortex magnifier, noone had mentioned it before.

Does anyone know which risers do I need for the TRS-25/UTG combo?

I have the Vortex Strikefire II on my 15/22. Mine is the red/green dot combo..I have heard the one with only the red dot is a brighter dot, and better.

I previously had the TRS-25 on my 15/22, now it's on my Ruger Charger, but the correct riser for the sight is .83" high for lower 1/3 co-witness. If you want absolute co-witness a .75" riser will work just fine.

What do you guys think about this combo? $53 Bushnell TRS-25 Amazon.com : Bushnell Trophy TRS-25 Red Dot Sight Riflescope, 1 x 25mm, Black : Rifle Scopes : Sports & Outdoors
$63 UTG 3x Magnifier - Amazon.com : UTG 3X Magnifier with Flip-to-side QD Mount, W/E Adjustable : Sports & Outdoors
Also, which rings should be used for these? Picatinny but not sure about specific sizes.
Thanks in advance!

I have the TRS-25 with a UTG quick release mount and it's the perfect hight. I have mine fitted 2 clear notches on my picatiny rail in front of my flip up iron sites so they can be used with the TRS-25 in situ if needed. I really rate the TRS-25 for the price as it can take a knock and worked flawlessly in Afghanistan on my AK-47.

Since you seem to have budget limits, it looks like the TRS-25 is the sight for you. Try it without any magnifiers first. You might like it just fine by it's self.

I have a TRS 25 on one 15-22 and a TRS 32 on another. Both have held up well. The 25 has a 2MOA dot compared to the 32's 5MOA, so it should theoretically be more precise. In practice they are pretty close out to 100 yards.

I have the Burris 336 on two of my rifles and they work very well. At 3 power you can keep both eyes open for close in shots and I can still hit a pie plate at 400 yards with my AR. It also works if you run out of batteries.
I think it gives the best of both worlds, fast target acquisition and precision long range.

I use the Fieldsport ($21 Amazon) and it has been flawless after 2000+ rounds on my 15-22 and multiple times removed. Zeroing is always dead on. Have no problem hitting targets out to 100yds consistently. I had 2 Bushnell TRS 25's and neither was as bright as the Fieldsport. Comparing the 2 the Bushnell was as bright on 11 as the Fieldsport is on 6. Real test will be when I put one on my .22 mag. 15-22 in a .22 mag would be AWESOME..

Recommend the TRS25 too. The gun is a cheap 22lr plinker, no need for anything fancy. And a magnifier? Same philosophy, I don't shoot farther than 100 yds and the lowest setting on the TRS gets rounds on paper.

I have a TRS on mine, which is the same one I used this in Afghanistan on my AK-47 and it was superb.
When I hunt with my 15-22 I use Sightmark 1-4x24 which is a good budget scope.
Since I removed the round cover between the barrel and the hand guard, fitted a CMC 2 stage trigger and also replaced the extractor with an aftermarket one, it's like having a different weapon. Accuracy has improved tremendously and I am really happy with it.
