I pick up my new M&P22 tomorrow morning and I am looking for suggestions on specific ammo to use during break in?

Thanks.

If you can find it, CCI Mini-Mag's are about the best 22LR ammo around and are great for break-in. Once broken in, an M&P22 will be happy firing just about anything, including sub-sonic loads.

Don't forget to clean & lube your new gun BEFORE shooting it. Frog Lubes the best! (just saying)

The shop I bought it at has a gun range so it will be hard to resist shooting it but I will take it home and clean and lube first. I have Rem Oil, CLP, and gun grease at the moment but I have been wanting to try the Frog lube so I might pick some up. Thanks.

My LGS has CCI Velocitors in stock and they are now holding me a couple boxes for tomorrow when I pick up the pistol. I have a big box of Remington Golden Bullets and 500 rounds of the Standard Velocity .22 Aguila SuperExtra long rifle ammo. That should keep me busy for a little while!

My M&P22 runs best with Remington, either Thunderbolt or Golden Bullet. It doen't like CCI Blazer but really likes CCI Mini-Mag. MiniMag impossible to find though.

Mine didn't like Winchester 325/500 ct box and even older Thunderbolt.....30-40% FTF. It's on it's way back to S&W for a look-see.

Try various kinds of ammo if you can find any. I always liked CCI Mini Mags the best when I had .22s but there wasn't a .22 cal firearm- rifle & pistol - that I owned that didn't shoot anything I fed it. Admittedly my use of .22 cal semi-autos is limited & that's a whole new ballgame.

Mine runs great on Rem. Thunderbolts but after 50-100 rounds starts to lead up. You'll know you have leading when you start missing your targets! You can also see lead accumulate on the barrel crown. I stick to plated bullets now. Golden bullets have been running flawlessly.

The hi-velocity plated rounds work best in my pistol. I've had mine about 18 months. I shot it a lot at first and use it in my CC class for clients who can't find the expensive and elusive centerfire ammo. For a while it and my M43C were the only thing we could get ammo for to use in my classes. My ammo of choice would be the WW Super Speed solids at 1300fps if you can find any. Walmart used to carry it. BTW, the .22 fits the same holsters as it's big brothers. Bob!!

I second that emotion on the Remington Golden, I fire mine a lot and have well over 2000 rounds thru it. Winchester plated hollow points (1280 FPS) also worked well. The only ammo that didn't cycle in mine was a lower FPS Winchester. But staying above 1230fps..any should work well. Clean your mags regularily also especially the upper portion, the mags break down easily for cleaning.

OK Just back from the range. Wow what a blast that was. I didn't want to leave. I shot over 500 rounds! Started with the Higher velocity and worked my way to the slower stuff. I initially had several FTF but after I numbered all the magazines I was able to trace it back to one magazine, I will return that one tomorrow. I really liked the high velocity stuff the best. The pistol seemed to have a more crisp and sure recycle using it. The Auguila Super Extra ammo was a let down. The pistol recycled in a half hearted manner and without the crispness of the higher power stuff. The Remington Golden Bullets are dirty little suckers but fired nicely and I think would make good plinking ammo. Overall I was pleased with the pistol, the only thing I didn't care for was the trigger. It has more take up then I like but did have a nice tactile and audible reset. I consider myself a novice so take my opinion with a grain of salt. The M&P22 will make a nice companion to my M&P9L Core and my M&P15 (CMMG 22LR Upper on the way to me!!). Now instead of shooting 50 cent pieces down range I am shooting dimes. Much less guilt. (by the way my LGS has 9L Core in stock the phone number is in previous post above)

I've only put a couple hundred rounds of Federal bulk and Mini Mags through mine, guess I got lucky on mine as I put a mag of the Aguila SSS Snipers through mine with no problem. I didn't think they would cycle since they only shoot 950fps but they did just fine.
I put a mag of the Super Extra through it and they did just fine too...

The Super Extra was fine but I just felt like it cycled noticeably slower than the high velocity ammo. The other thing I observed was that the Super Extra seemed to punch larger jagged holes in the paper where the high velocity ammo punched perfectly round .22 caliber sized holes. I am guessing this is due to the slower speed of the projectile.

I will try the Super Extra in my 22LR CMMG upper when it gets here and see how it does in the rifle. It's not going to waste.

As I do with ALL new pistols I purchase,I just wiped down my M&P22 and used Win Wildcat from the start, 100% functioning for me, no cleaning required, no special lube, just shoot.
I do use a pressure spray cleaner when the pistol becomes dirty.
Only problem was a user issue when the slide is not let go with snap on loading a new mag, stove pipe for a user with with wrists.
If the pistol doesn't work right out of the box for me, then it would be cleaned and lightly lubed with Birchwood Casey Sheath.
If it doesn't function then, if not user or ammo, it's gone.-Dick

My M&P 22 has run 100% with Blazer bulk ammunition (about 300 rounds). In fact, I have had 100% operation (zero malfunctions, but two duds in about 500 rounds) with Blazer bulk, CCI Standard Velocity, and American Eagle bulk, after a 10 magazine break-in. All I could get at the time of my initial purchase was Winchester Super Speed HP, and I had problems with rounds not being stripped off of the magazine beginning with my seventh magazine. Dumped the Winchester and have had no problems since.

I agree with the choice of CCI Mini Mags. Fairly clean for .22 and the gun cycles well between shots.

Mine has always run best with high velocity, 1250-1300fps, plated 40 grain RNL. Some high velocity 36-37 grain plated LHP run better than others.
