Hi all... Im new member... Been lurking a bit lately picking up some info on digital camo, tacticrayola (a masterstroke, by the way), problems, fixes and... Oh dear... The expensive bit... Parts!Ive leart a lot from you all already... Cheers guys.

So anyway... I see NDZ stuff... Have a little dribble... See some of the AR15 parts... Pins, triggers etc. Dribble a bit more...

So the story goes like this... I want, but cant get, a 15-22 in the UK yet because I have to have a FAC. To get one, I will be going through a 6-9 month wait... Thats fine. So what I obviously need to be doing in the meantime, is research and plot!

So I come up against your export laws and NDZ not being able to send bits over... Which I understand.

So all things considered... I need to create my own parts. So I check out costs, think on designs, analysis and testing... And it turns out that making a small batch wont cost much more than making 1 (of any given part).

So my point is... Well... My question, really...

To all UK members... Would there be any demand for such things? And what thoughts does anyone have on the idea in general?

Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

Hi NH and welcome to the forum!

Having a UK based supplier of dedicated 15-22 parts would be great (moreso for new owners, as I've had a couple of years of tweaking my 15-22 setup to get it just as I'd like!), but to be a realistic proposition you'd have to be able to match the price/quality of the likes of Tacticool22's parts, as Jody will happily ship to the UK (I've had some bits from him and getting them through the post was no bother). Similarly, a lot of AR-15 generic parts can be had through the likes of Brownells, as long as you stay under the $100 limit for ITAR items in each order.

MidwayUK is a joke, though: swap the $ sign for a £ and then add 50% to the price again

I do understand that NDZ's no export policy can be frustrating, as can that of other suppliers - for instance, I had no problem buying a BAD-*** ambi safety and getting shipping to the UK from one seller (.223/.308 version), but can't for the life of me find anywhere that will ship the 15-22 specific version to the UK!

I seem to recall reading something (in a UK shooting forum) about a potential opening up of the US-UK gun parts shipping restrictions coming about in the New Year, but haven't seen anything else to corroborate this...?

Yeah, thats the thing I noticed. I cant find anywhere to get NDZ type parts. The tacticool charge handle is about all I can see thats specifically 15-22... theres bit, but hardly anything.

I saw the thing about export laws opening up as well... But I think I would save time trying to grow parts from seeds. ;)

I did try and contact NDZ, but they were adament, and they didnt reply when asked to buy plans. So I think that drastically limits options.

I did ask for opinions on another forum (thusfar) but got very mixed replies.

If theres any more UK based people about, I would love to hear from you... Not that many will see this, granted. :)

If you work through Brownells they can help you get an export permit.

The over $100 ITAR restriction is easy to get an export permit to cover. But true ITAR controlled parts like a Gen3 NOD you'll never get exported.

Brownells doesn't have much for the 15-22 but they do help you organize exports. We also have to do it here in SA.

Thats good to know! I also found a dedicated site that offers the same thing... I didnt realise that was even an option.

And thanks all for the warm welcome :)

Hi, another Uk shooter here. Why the 6 to 9 month wait? I guess you need to join a club first so you can put down where you shoot on the application ? To be honest, you need to focus on getting yr licence first and then see where you get to. While buying my 1522 I noticed there were about 12 yes 12!!!!! For sale in the uk on gun trader. I would be surprised if there were 200 in the country. Not worth firing your lathe up matey :)

Aye... I am a couple of months into my probation at the club. I'll start getting the paperwork together next month. I say 6 - 9 because its not usually a fast process.

As for concentrating on 2 things at a time... I assure you I can simultaniously wait and design parts at the same time. I wasnt gonna get machining... But I can get Cadding and calculating! ;)

The main reason I was asking if there was interest is because making 4 or 5 is the same cost as making 1... Past that, its all a bit of a guess at the moment as to how many poeple would want bits.

http://www.arc-precision.co.uk/ Are a Hi ennd AR15 part specialist and will soon be bringing in all tacticool 22 parts to the uk. They already stock all the most popular trigger kits and bad selectors etc plus many rail options , grips and stocks etc. Give Viv a call he is very very helpful and cheaper than most UK outlets!

q:

Why not get the parts from a EU-retailer?
Don't know how harsh your importlaws are but from EU to Netherlands it requires some redtape for restricted parts but it is do-able.

For non-restricted parts there are dutch shooters who order on-line from
all corners of the world to prevent the hassle of ITAR-rules.

Thanks for the posts guys... I didnt realise that there were ways around it... To be honest, this kind of closes my case a little.

If I can get the bits, simply enough... Then jobs a good'un. The only parts that I cant easily get are from NDZ, but for the very few, theres sites that will act as a proxy. So its more expensive, but FAR less hastle than designing your own.

At least, if nothing else... I can get my hands on known quantities before I break out the CAD package. lol
