Hello,

I found the forum while trying to get general manufacturing dates on S&W revolvers. I've been shooting since I was a kid, I also recently began to reload my ammo. Was in the army for several years until i got tired of not having a social life. I live in MA which as some of you may know has some pretty draconian gun laws.

Which brings me to my question. I want to get a pre-lock S&W 625, .45 Long Colt, 4" or 5" barrel. However in MA as I understand it even if the gun I want is on the magical list of approved firearms I can't bring it into the state unless it was made prior to 10/21/98. So my question is is there a list of manufacture dates that go with dash model numbers? For example I owned a Model 29-3 which was made back in the late 80's. I've seen 625-7s that are pre-lock but don't know when the -7s were made. Does such a list exist?

Thanks,
David

Sorry I can't answer your question, but welcome to the forum!

By the way, I spent over 22 years in the Air Force and had a great social life :)

Welcome from Va. Get you a copy of the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson 3rd edition. You will find dates. (appoximate)

Welcome to the forum from western Pa. The 625-7 came out in 1998 for the 45 Colt, according to the SCSW 3rd edition.

Welcome from Texas David. Great forum for all things S&W, have fun, learn lots, share what you know.

Perhaps, things may get a little better now that the political winds seem to have changed just a tad in your fair land.

Thanks all for the welcomes.

Thanks also to JJ and AC for the info in your posts.

I'm not sure how much Scott Brown is going to help us here in MA. We're fighting an uphill battle here against some wacky rules and laws.

MSgt G - The Army seemed to have me tracked, every time I met a woman they sent me someplace far away. It was like clockwork. "Gee that was a fun date, wonder where I'm being sent off to next..."
