Hello everyone! This is my first post on the S&W forum and I'm happy to be here! A little background:
I am a Retired Federal Law Enforcement Officer (2011), with 35 total years law enforcement experience. I began my law enforcement career in 1976 as a "beat cop" with the Waycross (GA) Police Department and it was there my association with Smith and Wesson began. Each officer was required to provide his own duty weapon and I purchased a used Model 27 with a 5" barrel, which was an expensive purchase, considering my take-home pay was only $287 every two weeks. Nevertheless, oh how I wish I still had that M27, it was such a sweet shooting handgun and it was very rare that I shot less than a perfect score with it.
After completing my Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, then my Masters Degree, I was hired as a Special Agent with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. I maintained that position until receiving my Federal appointment.
Over the years I have owned several S&W firearms. The most recent acquisition is a S&W Bodyguard .38 Special, which I received as a retirement gift from the Agency. Honestly, I've never shot it, and it's still sitting in the box inside my safe.
After retiring, my interest in firearms waned for a while. Despite the fact that I routinely carry a concealed weapon, I just didn't have the desire to frequent the range like I once did. Maybe it was a bit of burn-out ... a near mortal battle with cancer in the three years before my retirement didn't help either .... but recently, while helping my daughter shop for a handgun, I discovered my interest in firearms returning very strongly and have found it refreshing to get back out on the shooting range. I even recently purchased a new CZ 75 Compact SDP (9mm), which I have enjoyed shooting.
At the moment, I am searching for a (reasonably priced) Model 610 with a 4" barrel. I have hundreds of rounds of .40 caliber ammunition to shoot and, at the same time, I'm very fond of the 10mm round, so what better platform than a M610 to cover that need. It would be the perfect marriage for me since I have an affinity for revolvers anyway. I am also strongly considering purchasing a S&W Governor for no other reason than the novelty of owning one. It just looks like a fun revolver to shoot!
Thank you for taking the time to read my introduction. I am looking forward to a long, informative, and entertaining relationship with all of you.
I wish you all a Happy New Year!
