The thing I loved about Vermont was gaining acceptance from the locals by jumping off the 70'+++ granite quarry cliffs, into somewhat shallow water.
I just followed the townies when my turn came.
The second time sneakers and shorts were permitted.

The gals from Green Mountain College, all female at that time, appreciated this NYC lad's courage and sense of balance, while covering sensitive areas.
We had some acreage in Poultney and on Lake Saint Catherine.
Vermont was a great place to learn to Ski.
