Hello all. New guy to the forum, bought my 15-22 about 2 weeks ago. Took it to the range for the first time yesterday. Using a Primary Arms M4, I shot several types of ammo. Federal Bulk (wal-mart), Winchester Bulk (Xpert HV), CCI Mini Mags, Stingers and the CCI AR Tactical rounds. My rifle absolutely LOVES the CCI Tacticals!! My buddy and I went thru an entire box (375 rds) of the stuff, we shot around 700 rds total with the other brands included. Out of the 700 or so rds I had 3 FTF's which i think is pretty darn good. I sighted in at 25yds with the CCI Tacticals and was even having great grouping out to 100 yds compensating for bullet drop (about 5 inches), not bad using a unmagnified red dot in my opinion. These will be my rounds of choice. Granted they are a bit on the pricey side, I paid 20 dollars for a 375 rd box), but it's worth it to me.

Shooting this rifle is like a drug! There were some other folks at the range and everyone wanted to check it out. I think i may have sold a couple more rifles for S&W, lol.

Also I'm very impressed with the Primary Arms M4. I bought it based on reviews here and elsewhere and I was not disappointed.

Hello and welcome, Rowsdower,

That 15-22 is addicting, right off the bat! It sounds like yours will pretty much handle any of the name brands of ammo okay. Early on I found that CCI MiniMags work the best for me so that is all I shoot in mine. More expensive.....Yes! But I figure that might keep me away from having some more common problems with FTF's and such.

Enjoy your new rifle and keep us posted on what add-ons you wind up with! ;)

Thanks Jammer. The only accessories i've ordered so far are a set of Magpul backup sights and a hogue oversized grip. I have a cheap Blackhawk 2 point sling on her right now.

It didnt' seem to mind any of the brands i ran thru it. I figure the FTF's were ammo or magazine loading issues. The groups were scattering a bit towards the end of shooting, but she was pretty dirty by that point.

Welcome to the 15-22 forum. I'm a relative newcomer here personally. Sounds like yours will eat just about anything you feed it. I wish mine was like yours bit mine is more finicky about ammo. Congrats!

Welcome. Like yourself I started with CCI MiniMags, then moved on to Tacticals. I didn't mind spending the extra money because I don't traditionally shoot that much at any one outing. Then I started shooting this 15-22. Now I use a lot of ammo; so I soon will be trying Federal bulk in mine. Seems like that has been the most widely accepted, with the least number of problems, bulk ammo here on the forum.

Went in the gun shop this morning to pick up my S&W Bodyguard 38 I had on order and the salesman handed me a 15-22. All it took was throwing that rifle up to my shoulder and it came home with me, also. Thought I would read some opinions on what brands of ammo worked and what didn't before I go buy a couple of bricks.
First thing I noticed is that there is no front sling swivel. Is this an accessory? Even my genuine military issue M16 came with two swivels. Guess I'm fixing to start getting into the accessories. Let's see, do I want a scope or red dot, who makes after market trigger assemblies, etc. etc.

Welcome

Rows,

Welcome to the addiction!
Hide your credit card!

I've got hundreds of Tactical and Fed bulks through
my 15-22 and they are flawless, at least for me.

This little gun is the best thing to happen to S&W in a long time.

At first, there were returns to the factory for a few problems, but I think they got them ironed out.

Just one piece of advise that will help with a lot of "failures".

Load the magazines correctly and then go buy about

four more, you'll need them!

I even like cleaning the darn thing!

Welcome and Regards.:D

It didn't take long for me to order 3 more mags from 44mag.com. I think they were 17.99 a piece or something near that. I got my Hogue grip today but i don't have the right wrench to take the nut off the grip (3/16 right?), so i guess i'll have to hit a store tomorrow to pick one up. I also got my Magpul back up sights, some Daniel Defense low profile rail covers, and the Midway USA Tactical Rifle soft case which was on sale for 18.99.

Once I get the grip put on I'll post a pic in the picture thread.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! I'm already itching to get back to the range.

Just installed a Tru Glo halo sight, a GG@G front sling swivel, bought three 25 rd. mags, and a "tactical" case. Now I am looking for a military issue M16 sling. KA Chng. A flash suppressor and a "krytonite" light w/base and I will be ready to go to the garbage dump and shoot rats. Hey, I use to do that with a Remington single-shot bolt action and a miner's light on a headband. LOL

Appreciate the welcome. I found a M16 sling at a local pawnshop today. Now I need a light to hang under the barrel so I can spot some rats. Not talking about little mice size, more like cat size. Lots of fun. We also use a handgun while a shooting buddy spots them with a flash light, then we swap out.

Dixiejack sounds like fun, we have ground squirrels here, might have to give it a whirl. I to have started "improving" mine LOL
