Greetings revolver fans, I recently bought a model 18, which I think dates to 1961. It shows a bit of wear, but shoots very well. It has adjustable rear sights, and I think the desired target hammer and trigger combo, if that means the trigger has grooves on it. It has pachmyr black rubber stock, and I have walnut stocks too, but not the originals . I'm liking this one quite a bit.it seems pics are beyond me just yet. Gotta go, but I'll try again later. The pic is on my phone. Cheers,. Geoff

Welcome and congrats on your model 18. They are sweet! :)

Welcome to the definitive S&W Forum. You will meet many fine folks here, some of whom will be able to provide you with even more info about your newly acquired revolver than you will even think possible. Your next step should be to post a couple of pictures in the thread, showing any details you may have questions about, including a clear image or two of those non-original stocks. BTW, it's the width of the trigger that designates target vs service style, although the serrations (grooves) do tend to show up frequently on the target width grips.

Nice, it looks like Sile target stocks.
Your hammer and trigger are the service style
and work very well for most people.
A great gun and one of the easiest
to shoot well.

Thanks, the stocks have a made in Italy stamp inside. They look pretty good,. I think the pachmyrs feel better tho.

A great little gun indeed! The stocks look a little too close to "Colt" style, and probably make your little Smith feel underappreciated. A nice set of magnas or even Smith targets would get it feeling better again. 18s are very sensitive creatures.
Seriously though, one of the 2 best .22 revolvers ever made. (The other one was made by Smith as well.)
Welcome to the forum!

Welcome and great revolver. Mine has the target hammer and trigger but I actually prefer the standard ones like yours.
