Hello everyone
I hate to start off a new membership post with negativity, but would someone please explain to me why gun owners in America are such, for lack of a better term, IDIOTS? I'm not saying this because I'm a new American citizen or a foreigner. I was born in TN and raised in GA. I have owned guns since I was a teenager, and I'm now closing in on 50, and I have never seen such a ridiculous example of Americans scared of losing their gun right privileges as I have seen in the last several months.
Why is it that, now that Obama has decided to enact some ridiculous executive orders over assault weapons, that America has decided to stockpile everything that they can get their hands on? Have we all become so afraid that someone is going to take all our gun ownership and buying privileges away that we have become a nation of "ice storm idiots". By that I mean the way that way people react whenever the weather person on TV say that bad weather is heading our way. Oh, let's all go run out to th store and buy everything that we can get our hands on. Seriously?
Has America fallen that far that we don't realize how stupid we look? I've been married for almost 25 years and my wife has just recently decided that she wants to learn how to shoot a gun, even though I have been using them for over 30 years. Now that we have another thing that we enjoy doing together, now I find out that I can't even reload ammunition for us because I can't even buy reloading dies because all of America is afraid that the president is going to take everything gun related away from us. Didn't we see this when Clinton was in office? Did someone come knocking at your door wanting all of your guns and ammunition? What the hell is wrong with people in America? Someone please restore my faith.
Sorry for the rant, but it is so frustrating to me to see Americans acting this way. I have never felt this way in my entire life, but right now, I have no faith or belief in the American people. We, including myself, my family, and close friends who have been gun owners for most of their lives, have never been so disgusted with the way American people are reacting.
I want to promise that any subsequent posts will not be a "spiteful" rant on American gun owners, but, I guess that will depend on how "intelligent" we, as gun owners in America, act in the future.
Thank you for your time and patience.

If only I had a few more Franklins I would be one of those "grabbing" for a few new pieces. I am not interested in "assault weapons" for my home, but I do enjoy the freedom to own handguns for target shooting, hunting, etc. And if the rules do change, at least I would rather have the chance to "grandfather" my collection than not.

Personally I take offense to being classified as an idiot or ignorant. Don't remember being called that when everyone was getting in line for gasoline after 911.

SharkByte, welcome to the forum.

I am glad you were able to get that off your chest, now please allow me to provide a different point of view. I believe you are incorrect to call gun owners idiots for being concerned about loosing the rights to buy and own certain types of weapons, accessories, and ammo. This threat is real. Those of us who lived through the last AWB or who live in states that restrict the types of weapons or the size of magazines you can purchase know this all too well. At the end of the current efforts to restrict gun ownership the end result most likely will not include everything that the President or people like Dianne Feinstein want, but it could very easily restrict the size of magazines or the quantity of ammunition you are allowed to buy.

I am a little older than you and have also owned different weapons for most of my life. I have served more than 24 years in the Navy starting out as an enlisted sailor, earning my bachelor degree and my commission as an officer, and later earning my masters degree. I also like to think high have a high level of common sense and life experiences that I would not consider myself to be an idiot. That said I have certainly been buying much more magazines and ammo than I would be normally if the threat of change was not in the air. If I was stateside I would probably buy a new AR-15 even though I really am not in the market for one just so I had it and it would be eligible for the grandfather clause. Unfortunately being overseas makes purchasing weapons very difficult.

So I am glad your wife has decided to join you in your passion to own and use firearms. I am also sorry you are having a difficult time finding the reloading supplies you need but I would not blame that on the rest of us being idiots. If you are looking for items that will not be impacted by the upcoming legislation I would recommend simply waiting as the availability will return and the prices will come back down. But if you desire to own anything that will be impacted I suggest you buy it now if you can.

Thank you for allowing me to post a different point of view.

Welcome but respectfully, hardly an introduction that would ingratiate or garner a sympathetic ear in my opinion. I hear your frustration but as it is written, it comes across as not so much of a rant but a whine.
There are many who feel similarly but was able to articulate their concerns perhaps in a less confrontational manner. Something to think about. Welcome.

Now that both sides have been represented, we're going to pull the plug
on this one before people really start acting like idiots. ;) :)
