Hi Guys & Gals:

First post here. Picked up 2 Smith's today: a new M&P Shield in 9mm (no safety) and an older Model 15-3 in very nice shape.
The serial number is:

K8799xx and it is also hand stamped: PK51 after the ser #

Any ideas as to date of manufacture and what the PK51 might stand for?

Thanks!

Joe

Based on the serial number, your 15 was made in 1969. The PK51, if it is on the yoke, is probably an assembly number intended to keep the parts together during the manufacturing process. If it is "hand stamped" on the butt, it could be a rack or inventory number applied by an agency that issued the gun. I have a 15-6 that has FAB 35 electropenciled on the underside of trigger guard and a large 71 on the yoke. The revolver was allegedly a turn in from a security company.
