Had my grandson IL on the boat today along with my best fishing buddy, to see if we could teach him the ropes on his first ever, kokanee fishing trip.
I was not gentle with him, started of with a level wind reel that he never saw in his life, and had no idea on how to work it !!
Between the reel and learning how to let line out on a down rigger ball, at the same time, we old timers broke a gut laughing !!

I will be gentle on the next trip with a spinning reel , but, hay, one needs to learn how to work both types of reels, on a D/R.
The newbie, lost four kokanee on the way to the boat and brought three to the net , so not bad for a "Greenhorn".
After 90 minutes he had a 6 in the box to 4 "almost".
I told him to stop horsing them in, since they were in my face, before, I could reel up the manual D/R ball !!
It not a good thing to have them at the boat before your helper, can wind up the D/R ball, before getting the net.............
to net your kokanee, to bring it into the boat !!
We all had lots of laughs and had a great day on the glass calm water and came home with lots of kokanee foe the three of use to enjoy.
I showed the "Newbie" how to fillet a fish and how to clean/gut a fish in under 25 seconds.
Sent them both home with smoked kokanee and fresh kok's for the BBQ.
A great time for all of us and maybe looking for another outing if it can happen.
Have a great summer,
