I've been watching these forums for a while now, thought it was time to start participating. Brought up around firearms, my Grandfather was a VERY active shooter and member of a few clubs/leagues. Inherited both firearms and his preferences over the years. Pre-27 357, a couple of 19-3's, .45 25-2, etc.

I don't really consider myself a "collector", but I've got more than one or two. I realize it's a very subjective question, but wondering what similar owners prefer for storage? I've got a large enough safe, and when I only had a few handguns I preferred hard storage case for each weapon. My theory was that they were nice and neat and organized, and if I'm headed to the range I don't have to move/swap things around. Now that I've got "several" and space is tight, I'm thinking about utilizing some of the smaller, soft-sided pouches for inside the safe. Then if I take one to the range, I'll put into a locking case for transport.

Thanks for opinions.

Welcome to the forum from Southwest Florida. Glad to have you aboard.

Very nice pre-27, by the way, and with Cokes no less!

I have all of my handguns on racks in my safe. Most of them anyway. I wanted to get some more matching racks, but the guy who made them retired.

Welcome the the SWF, Eli!

I prefer Bore Stores myself, but there are many good storage racks and options now.

Soft padded zippered gun rugs (cases) stored upright and unzipped. That gives me 2 layers between the guns, so I can pack 'em in tight without fear of damage.

Welcome to the forum from the Commonwealth of Virginia.
I use "hangers" like the ones below from gun storage solutions. They work well for me.

I also used the same rack maker as tlawler posted. Since that person retired I had a local guy make me a few. See the lower rack. Don’t match but they work.

Welcome aboard from coastal North Carolina.

I have a crowded gun safe, so I put my pistols in Sack-Ups Model 207 handgun safe cotton fabric socks for pistol storage. They are handgun safe and moisture resistant. They allow me to stack them next to each other without worrying about scratching the finishes.

I buy them at Amazon and use them in conjunction with a gold rod in the safe to keep humidity low. I treat the firearms with a silicone rag rub down every couple of months too.

Hi there!
Welcome to the S&W Forum!
Thumbs up to your grandfather for giving you a great start with such classic firearms.
Priceless life experience and memories!

I like zippered soft gun rugs. They’ve worked for me for decades. They protect the gun, yet allow them to be packed in with others.
I think they enjoy the company! ;)

Welcome from CT. I use some foam padded commercial safe racks on shelf and pistol rugs I keep on eye on everything and wipe down the ones in rugs often. My very organized buddy uses square black fabric pistol bags with a little ID tag on end of the zipper to identify the contents. Nice and orderly. I would keep them unzipped to allow for air circulation however.

I use the rods to hang guns as well. It’s amazing how much space they create. You can buy generic ones on eBay pretty cheap.

Welcome!

Even with two safes, space is at a premium!

I use just a basic, rectangular padded zipper case. I try to find ones that have thinner padding so they're not too thick. Unfortunately, over the years the brands have come and gone, so I've used several different ones. The bonus is the cases fit in my range bag, so I just grab whatever I want to shoot and drop it in the range bag.
