Just joined the forum and just bought a very clean 439 9mm. Looking forward to shooting it in the next few days. Any tips about the 439 will be appreciated.

439's are excellent pistols. The only advice for them is to keep plenty of ammo on hand as they are very hungry during range time. Your 439 looks to be in great shape from the pictures you show, enjoy it and let us know how it shoots.

The 439 is a great pistol. Had one then got a case of stupid and sold it. It has since been replaced with a 639. Another great pistol but heavier. Firebird V8 is right, keep plenty of ammo around, you will go through it.

I love my 439, my first S&W too. Mine is blued, with a clear anodized frame, a two-tone model. Looks nice with the black Pachmeyer grips.

You've got on nice looking 439...didn't realize they came with ambi safty. Have yet to fire mine, but am sure it will be flawless like every other Smith I own.....welcome to THE forum from sunny Florida....

Nice find, Hawkeye. If you're interested in the an original S&W 439 blue box, owner's manual, and as-new S&W original magazine as in the photos below, PM me or e-mail me at [email protected]

Got to the range Wednesday and fired 50 rounds. Excellent pistol. May want to add some higher visibility sights but love the way it shoots. Forgot how user firendly 9mm is as I've been shootin 40, 45 ACP, 357 and 44 mag. Picked up a couple extra mags for it and about 500 rounds of ammo so I'm set.

Been to the range several times and continue to love the 439. for indoor range shooting I definitely need a higher vis sight. Anyone know what models are available that will fit the 439. Will 1911 sights work?

That's a beauty....I love all the 39/59/45 series....The M&Ps are nice but I love the steel/alloy.

Very nice. I just lucked into an unfired 639, the SS cousin of yours. Been trying to find an IWB holster with no luck. Anyone know who still makes them?

Just look for any holster that lists the 3904 or 3906 and it will work. You can also use the more common holsters for the 5904/5906 or 4006. While the frames are a little bit wider, the holsters will still work on a 39 series.

Bianchi Gun Holsters
One example from the Bianchi website.

My 439 holster is actually my 5906 holster. My 6906 fits in it as well. It is a bit roomy for the single stack 439.

Simply dab some white paint on the center post of the rear sight. Sure, it's a little cheezy, but it gets the job done without all the stress of switching out the rear sight, if one can even find one for this old model.

I also suggest you snap up the magazines offered by another poster in this thread. They do not have that "bent and twisted" look of many used model 39 magazines when people tried to take off the base plate. Just some spray cleaner and a light touch of lube from the finger will take care of magazine maintenance. The plastic followers in the photos are the best kind, as they are less likely to bind.
