I have been lurking around here reading and learning what I can. I had my decision down to a 627 V-Comp, 627 PC, or a TRR8. I shoot USPSA and was going back and forth about which one I wanted. I walked into store the other day and they had a TRR8 on the shelf. I never see PC guns in Alaska. So she's now home with me. I have a bunch of accessories on their way. Thanks to everyone for the information.

Congrats on you new revolver! :) I remember when those first appeared in the catalog. My reaction was something like, "What the heck?" Over the last couple of years I have started to kind of admire them. Wouldn't mind having one myself. :o

Ive been wanting one for a few years now, but everytime I get the chance to get one, I end up buying something else. One day I will have the opportunity and jump on it. Congrats on an awesome gun!

Congrats on your new TRR8. If you are going to use it for USPSA, I hope that the "bunch" of accessories includes a BMT tool, .38 Short or Long Colt brass (people in my neck of the woods prefer the Long Colt - easier to make PF). Heavy bullets in brass shorter than .38 Spl seems to be the formula that works best. Don't buy too many moons to start with until you arrive an optimum clip brand/brass brand fitment - which may require some trial & error.

Good luck. Have fun and be safe.

Adios,

Pizza Bob

PICTURES?!

Nice! I compete with Federal American Eagle .38 for which the ideal moon clips are TK Custom alloy in 0.025. My carry is Remington Golden Saber +P JHP and Speer Gold Dot .357 Magnum Short Barrel JHP. Moon clips for these carry loads is carbon steel 0.020 as the 0.025's are too thick for those; and, the carbon steel stands up very well - the moon-clip reload in my left pants pocket day after day doesn't bend.

I ordered the BMT moonclip tool, a blade-tech speed rig holster, a north mountain 4post moonclip holder, I plan on getting some starline short colt brass and tk moonclips.

I went and ordered one today, after getting my 66-8 back yesterday and shooting the **** out of it. Keeping my fingers crossed that it's not my fourth straight defective S&W .357 ... must ... think ... positive ... thoughts ... :)

Congratulations on the new addition

Don't forget to post some pics for us, without a picture it did not hasppen

I agree with Florida J Frame, the 327 family with their tensioned barrels are amazingly accurate. My two tone TRR8 cuts the group size down for anyone that shoots it.

The only thing I did was change the grips

I haven't had the chance to fire it yet but everything about it that I can see is perfect. They had two of them, and both of them were good to go. They were built 9/15. I have a sick kiddo at home today so I can't go sight it in. I go back to work tomorrow for the week so I won't get to pull the trigger for another week. I'll post a pic as soon as I figure out how to.

Congrats on a great Revolver!!!
Congrats on also getting the BMT mooner tool...
IMHO, the best of both worlds....

Groo here
I got an early one.
Dad ,after seeing and shooting it, decided "He" needed a new Deer gun[Ohio]
So I have shot it only for sight in.
Clay birds at 100 yds benched, with 180gr "Groo Monster Maulers",
quake with fear.
My standard is an 8in paper plate at 100yds with full power.
Too easy with the TRR8!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Other posters including one reviewer in a magazine reports TRR8's are very hard to find holsters for (although competition holsters seem readily available). Is that the case? What solutions are out there?

All the reviews out there are very complimentary of this weapon to put it mildly. "One problem that seems to haunt this revolver is the lack of available holsters." Smith & Wesson 327 TRR8 Revolver - Article - POLICE Magazine

Will the thumb-break scabbard I have for a 5" barreled PC 627 work with the TRR8?

I'm a big fan of the simply rugged holsters. I have a few of them. He lists one for the R8 I think. You can always call him, its a great place to do business with. If he can't make me what I need I have a few local guys that I use that can make anything I need, they just mold it right off of my gun.
