Hey everyone, I've been lurking the last few weeks since I bought my shield and finally joined. Finally got the urge to participate in a few threads so I had to sign up lol.

I purchased my Shield about two weeks ago from a friend of mine. He only out about 100 rounds through it and decided it wasn't for him as an EDC. I can't see how he didn't like it! Went to my local range where my mom takes her Ruger LC380 and got to put some rounds down range. I did about 75 rounds of federal 115 aluminum casing and had no issues whatsoever. Gun is very manageable and pretty accurate. For some reason the white dots are gone on my sights but they are still usable.

Future mods are the ameriglow Classic three dot sights and some talon grips as I noticed my grip gets sweaty and it likes to slip a bit after a while.

I'm very impressed with this gun and am looking forward to spending more time with it before I take my concealed class with my mom and girlfriend. Even my girlfriend enjoyed it and it was her first time ever shooting a firearm. Glad to be here and can't wait to learn more and make some friends here.

My target, did some 10 and 20 yards. Definitely have room for improvement. Need better sights and improve my grip.

My girlfriend did very well for her very first time. Mostly 10 yards.

Welcome from North Carolina and another Shield owner. Now would be a good time to order your carry holster, many of the quality makers have long lead time.

Welcome from Wisconsin & congrats on the new Shield! You'll be hitting the 10 ring consistently in no time. I get days where I'm lucky to get all the rounds on paper with my 40C & full size 40. That usually happens when my son calls me to go shooting unexpectedly after a gallon of coffee has been consumed, LOL. Then there are days when I tell myself I should be in competition shooting.

Welcome from Colorado. I have the 40 Shield since December 2014 and am still working on consistent accuracy. This is my CC gun so I installed the Apex tactical kit which improved the accuracy and recently installed the XS Sight systems big dot sight since I only need to hit targets at relatively close distances. I'm still working on some accurate handloads for this gun. It seems to like 180 grain bullets over 165 grain but I'm still experimenting. The pistol is a flawless performer. I use a Galco KingTuk IWB holster.

Welcome from the upper Midwest!

Love my Shield 9mm.
Had to send it back the factory once but it works perfect now.

Thanks everyone for the awesome welcome. I have a remora that my friend included so I have tried carrying it at home to see if I like it. I'm also looking at the alienwear and a few others. Only trial and error will prove to decide which one will work for me. As far as accuracy I think I was too excited to really pay attention to where I was aiming while my girlfriend took her time and obviously did better than me lol. My mom even tried my shield and loved it. I did a lot of dry firing before I went so the trigger really isn't that bad once you learn it. I'm looking forward to improving and enjoying this gun for a long time.

I just picked myself up one. I absolutely love it. Don'tworry about the 20 yard shots so much. Its good to practice at differnt ranges, but I almost always train at 7 yards. Its that 21 foot rule that most law enforcement agencies teach their officers.

Welcome from another guy in Texas! The shield is a great pistol, congrats!

Just out of curiousity, are the white dots like... gone or dirty? What I mean is, last time I was at the range with my shield I noticed that my dots looked faded. when I went home to clean the gun I took a Q-tip and some gun cleaner & wipped & twisted the dots out with the Q-tip and voila! They were nice & bright white again!!

I'm from the Florida panhandle, sorry lol. As far as future range time I'll stick to 7-10 yards. Regarding the dots the holes look really deep like the white dots were pressed in the hole and are no longer there. I'll look closer tomorrow and try cleaning. Thanks for more welcomes guys! There were two S&W forums in tapatalk and this one seemed most active so I joined lol.

The issue with the white dots falling off is common on S&W M&P series, including the Shield. Until you replace the sights as you mentioned, you can use model paint or nail polish applied with a toothpick to fix that if it bothers you. The white dot on my front sight fell out within the first month on my Shield.

There's a lot of good information on holsters on the forum here, so you may want to look around a little before you buy one.

Welcome and thanks for a great post with the pics.

Welcome from another Floridian and relatively new member of the forum. I don't know what your friend was looking for in a carry gun, but you're the winner. The Shield is an excellent little pistol! However, you'll likely find that hanging around reading this forum will get you thinking and before long you may find yourself planning out your next M&P. That's not a bad thing though.

So far as carry goes, I think the Shield is a mite to big and heavy for the pocket of most pants. I'd bet this is what your friend didn't like. But it conceals great in a holster. A lot of people swear by inside the waistband (IWB) but don't write off a belt holster and loose shirt over it. Extremely comfortable and you don't have to buy pants a size too large in the waist.
