Hi,first time post. Just took a gun safety course and completed and filed my LTC with local police department. Estimate 45 to 90 days to process. Live 30 minutes from S&W manufacturing plant. So my first thought was to buy a S&W. As a first time gun buyer looking at M&P 2.0 9mm Shield. Reason for gun is home defense, but also would like something that can be concealed carried. Any advice on first handgun would be helpful.
Thanks Theo1

Your Shield 2.0 option is good for both home defense and EDC and welcome aboard from coastal North Carolina.

I like my S&W Governor for nighttime bedside Rapidsafe duty along with my EDC option (currently an S&W model 3953).

I own over a dozen Gen3 S&W semi-auto models in 9mm and .40 caliber. I carried most of them and had plenty of range time with each.

I opted for the DAO model 3953 and 4053 as my CCW choice because I'm a longtime revolver duty weapon carrier and didn't want any ??? when the SHTF.

I appendix carry IWB and don't like the light trigger on the striker-fired guns.

Greetings Theo1 and Welcome! My advise is to go to a gun range that allows you to rent and try different firearms, if there is one near you. You want a handgun that fits your hand and style of shooting that allows you to shoot most accurately with it. Everyone is different. Good luck in your search!

Welcome to the forum from North Carolina. The Shield would be an excellent choice. As was mentioned previously, I also would encourage you to visit a range that rents handguns and try several before you make your final decision. I would also encourage you to seek out some professional handgun training and instruction especially if you are a new shooter. Again, welcome and don't be afraid to ask questions. You'll find a bunch of knowledgeable folks here.
