Does anyone know if it is legal to have a loaded rifle in the gun rack of your truck?

Yes you can. You are allowed to carry firearms loaded in your vehicle anywhere you like. The vehicle is considered an extension of the home in lovely New Mexico.

Man, here in SC you can carry in a car loaded or unloaded, in the glove box, console or trunk (though how you work that with a van is beyond me. I just call the back compartment the 'trunk') I think you can do the gun rack thing here but I'm not sure. INTENT has a lot to do with how you are treated. If you have no intent except going to the range, gun shop or hunting you won't have a problem, unless the officer doesn't like you.
