New Mexico Gun Shop Seizes Polymer80 Pistol For Not Having A Serial Number

Assuming all of that is absolutely required,
consider the following:

I have 8 rimfire shoulder arms in my safe that were
manufactured prior to GC68,,
none have serial numbers,,
all were purchased after Jan. 2001 from FFLs.

If I try to sell any of these firearms today to a FFL,
or take them for an evaluation, how screwed am I?

It is my understanding that you would be OK on those with no SN.
If it is reasonable to anyone that they were mfg prior to 1968.

At face value... theft of a firearm.
As I understand things, the gun must be serialized if, it spends a business day at an FFL. Outside this, it's within the law pertaining to privately manufactured firearms, assuming the owner is not otherwise prohibited.
That shop found trouble

It doesn't have to be serialized, many guns prior to 1968 didn't have serial numbers. An FFL can transfer them.

I'm saying this as an FFL.
