I have a chance to buy a new 63 for 545.00 shipped. I need something durable that can train my two Heathen Son's some trigger control. Hey even Wid Heathens need good trigger control, eh. You give them a VQ Trigger Mk and they will go "Full Auto" on ya, ha ha.

I had the 317 "3" and I sold it because I didn't care for the Hi-Viz Sights, which is kinda funny because I shoot my Glocks with 10-8 Fiber all day long.
I kept my 2 317 "2in" Guns that Teddy Jacobson worked over though, ha ha.

Does anybody make a Patridge style or Ramp that will work well in this application. Maybe even a Patridge with a small gold/brass bead McGivern style.
How are the recent runs of 63's on the quality standpoint?

Lastly, is 545.00 shipped a pretty good price???

I think it is possible to get a plain Patridge or ramp from S&W to replace the Hi-Viz. S&W Customer Service should be able to hook you up with the right blade with the proper thickness and height.

A number a members here have the new 3-inch M63 and have reported it is a fine firearm. Trigger pulls can be stiff due to the needs of rimfire primers and the nature of the J-frame lock work. Trigger pull improves with use, and you can experiment with lighter mainsprings and rebound springs - but doing so may cause more misfires.

$545 is the lowest price I've ever seen for one, even used.
 
Yeah, I'm just a bit hesitant due to the fact that you hear a lot of issues with the newer revolvers (I hate to say that). I guess I'll 'pull the trigger' if they still have any. I'll let you Guys know about my venture. I just want something that I can practice with and let the Kid's get some good trigger/sight control and not have to shoot my 2 317 pre lock aluminum frame guns. Plus, those don't have adj. sights, so they are very limited to what they will to shoot to the sights. Nice having a .22 with adj. so you can blast all manner of crappy ammo (well, I won't shoot Thunderbolts).
Btw, the recent Oct.'15 Remmy GB that I got for my Advantage Arms Kit really impressed me. I had horror with the old stuff circa 2008. Even had a couple OOB's where the case ruptured and fragged. Scary, I tell ya. Glad I had the 'ol eye protection on. Thanks for the responses & hope everybody had a good Thanksgiving. Chow.
 
Holy Smokes, I'm broke now. Just picked up a 617 too for 588.00 & Free Shipping. $6 a gun Insurance. My original no dash 617 4" gun burn up in fire back in '94.
That was a fine firearm. Never did shoot near as good as my grandaddy's pre 17 though.

These were LEO/First responder prices, Guys. Been waiting for like 2 years for these guns to pop up LE Priceing and they both pop up at once.

PM me if your a LEO or First Responder eligible and I will tell you where, if haven't already figured it out already.

Jeez, my Wife is gonna clean my clock now. Hope she doesn't beta test one on me... ha ha ha.
 
I have a M63 3" from them on the way as well.

Thought about the M617 4", either in place of or in addition to, but always like the 3" J-frame kit gun size.

I bought this used about 3 years ago at a gun show for $400.(I got it from a guy walking in) I have since added a gold bead.
Very nice gun, puts to rest the notion for me that modern guns are put together poorly.

Just got a 63 myself last week. I have only put 100 rounds of .22 Long through it so far. Great gun! Very accurate. No problems at all. I won the auction on gunbroker for $612 + $15 shipping. Then the transfer fee was another $30. Overall, $657 total.

$545 is a great price. Go for it!!

That's exactly what I want to do right there. Did your 63 originally have the Hi-Viz front? I know some of the 3" 317's had the Black Ramp fronts for a short while. I'm just wondering if I will have to change the rear to a square notch because I suspect the rears on the Hi-Viz guns are u-notch. Is that front a factory S&W front sight, or a custom sight. Did you install the bead yourself, Ralph?
Something keeps drawing me in to the J Frame for plinking & just shooting golf balls and such. Just a fun sized revolver for actual shooting & 2 more rounds before you have to reload. I really like the P&R J Frames and the I Frames as well, but I kinda feel guilty about getting one and shooting the pure heck out of it. And hey, somebody has to keep 'ol S&W in business.
 
I bought the gun with the patridge sight on it, don't know if that was factory, but I have never seen another 63-5 with anything but the Hi Viz on it. I bought the gold bead online (forget where) and had a gunsmith install it as I didn't trust myself to get it right.
The guy only charged me $25 and is since deceased.
 
I have had my 63-5 for a couple of years now. Mine was $700 to the door at a time when they were hard to find. Changed the grips to Uncle Mikes combat. No regrets here.

The late 90's UM Boots that use to come on the J frame is my favorite grip.

Man, thats cheap! C&S charges like north of 150 to do that. Insane!

$150 to replace a pinned front sight? That would be ridiculous if it were even remotely close to being true but in fact they only charge $43.50 to install a pinned front sight on a S&W revolver.

Sights / Underlug / Finger Grip

Not trying to be smart or anything, but it says 155 and change to install gold bead sight. SR045 is the code, I believe.


The 43 and change is to install a plain factory S&W pinned front.

Any Custom work from a renowned Shop like C&S or Clark is going to cost some dough. It is what it is.

No, it would be brass or 24kt gold plated. I have a 10-8 "gold" bead on a 1911 and its a good system for all around use IMO. Gold/Brass Beads were the FO solution before there was FO. I think it still looks cool and works well & gives a classic look to the revolver.
