Browsing a shop yesterday and came up with this very nice 4" 19-4. Wide hammer and trigger, yellow ramp insert; pinned and recessed. Some minor finish issues but overall tight and nice.

One question: Should the s/n on the frame match the number on the yoke?

The number on the butt of the grip is your serial number.

The number on the yoke should say 19-4.
The other number on the yoke is not a serial number.

One additional thing...
The Model 19 came out in 1957.
It had target grips (walnut), not magnas.

Most likely your diamond magnas are going to have a serial number stamped in them from another gun.

Welcome to the forum Gary!!

Being that it is a 4", the serial number should also be in the yoke cut of the frame.
The (5 digit) number on the yoke is an assembly number and will also be on the left side of the frame under the grip.

Semper Fi!

Great info! I'll pull the grips to verify both bits. Thanks very much!

Yeah, that's why they started stamping the serial on the crane, so you wouldn't have to pull the new target grips off to check the serial number everytime. Before the big grips, you won't find the serial on the crane.

The grips do have a different s/n than the frame so the magnas would have been replacements I guess.
