I might want one of the 2 1/2"s just for the variation

Interesting development indeed, especially since the 3" version is really a 2.75 rifled barrel with the smooth bore in the comp section. They managed to decrease the barrel length even further and still keep the full length ejector rod.

To each their own regarding the previous comp comments. I am a fan of the feature. It works very well at reducing muzzle flip with magnum rounds. S&W does have a model in their current line up without the comp... the regular 66 in 2.75 BBL.

I might buy one. I haven't bought any of the "current" model 19s or 66s yet. I just might have to give that one a shot.

I have the 3". It's a very nice shooter that I can put lots of rounds through and not worry about wearing my collectible pre locks.

This new 2.5" bbl sure looks nice on boot grips... looks more balanced than the 3" on shorter stocks.

I also have the 3". It is a fine shooter, though I would honestly prefer it not be ported, but that's the only way to get a 3" K frame these days.

It's interesting that they managed to keep a full length ejector rod with the 2 1/2" version.

It's as if a true non-ported 3" K frame is against the rules or something. I guess it would hurt the value of the older 3" 66s, not that S&W would be directly affected, but hey I'm glad they're lookin' out for the collectors. The value of older Pythons seems to have taken a hit when the new ones came out.

Looks great and I actually prefer the porting and sight combo. I would just like to see this with a 7 round cylinder

As uncleted327 mentions, that is the L-Comp

This revolver started life as a Distributor Exclusive offering back in 2000

The contracted run was for 200 pieces, but many more have been made

The revolver shipped with two sets of grips. The Ace Secret Service boot grips and these Hogue Bantam grips

This configuration has been so popular that it has been in production for 20 years.

I have the 2 3/4” 66-8. I really like it. I’m tempted by the 19. Comp Carry, but think I have the better shooter.
